My eyes bugged. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry. Come on in," I said, tripping over my words.

"Thank you, Dear. You must be Kaylee," Leanne said.

"That's me," I said awkwardly, not sure how much they knew about me. "Ty's already gone to the stadium. He had to be there at 4:30, I think."

"That's alright, we'll see him after."

"Would you like to go to the game?" I asked, suddenly positive I wouldn't be going tonight.

"We have tickets for the next two days," Mia said. "Thanks for offering, though."

"Can I get you anything to eat or drink?"

"Do you have Coca-Cola? I know that's Ty's favorite. If so, I'll take one of those," Leanne said.

"I'll just take a water, thanks."

I walked to the fridge and grabbed a can of soda and two bottles of water. After I gave them their drinks, I sat down on the opposite end of the couch as Mia and Nala jumped in my lap as I was muting the TV.

"So, Kaylee, tell me a little about yourself," Leanne said. I started sweating at the sound of those words. The illusive question that was the hardest question to answer. I mean, what do you say? What do people really want to know? I just hoped, despite the situation with her son, she wasn't judging me.

"Well, I'm originally from Indiana; Gary. I moved here to go to school in 2012. I'm studying to be a physical therapist, but am taking next year off before starting grad school." As I talked, I could see the wheels turning in his mom's head. Like, she had come in with the presumption that I was only after one thing with Ty, despite him defending me. I know this because I caught him on the phone with his mom when I first moved in.

"My dad is the CEO of The Boeing Company in Chicago. My mom has always been a stay-at-home mom. I have two sisters. Cara lives in LA right now for school and my sister Jenna, well, I'm not too sure what she's doing with her life."

"You don't get along?" Leanne asked, sounding genuinely interested.

"Not even in the slightest. Not for my lack of trying, though. I gave up a long time ago."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

I just shrugged.

Mia spoke up next. "Ty said you go to NYU, yes?"

"Correct," I said, and she looked impressed.

Just then, my phone buzzed on the table with an incoming call. I held my breath as I reached for it, not wanting to look impolite. When I saw that it was Olivia, I said, "I have to take this, I'm sorry."

They both excused me and I grabbed my phone and walked to the kitchen to put a little space between us.

"Hey," I greeted happily.

"Hi. Just wanted to call you and tell you that I'm going after all. I'm feeling a lot better."

"What was wrong?"

"Just queasy. But it seems to have subsided."

"Has anyone else been sick?"

"No." I raised my eyebrows in suspicion, but didn't say anything because Leanne and Mia were watching me, though they were pretending to be interested in a magazine on the table. Suddenly, I was so happy I had decided to straighten up. And I was going to kill Ty when he got home for not warning me about his family coming to visit.

"I'm not going to be going," I said, somewhat unhappily, though I tried to say it quietly.

"Why? Are you all right? Is everything okay with the baby?" Do you need me to come over?" she asked in a panic.
