I puzzled over my star moment in gym class all through math, and since gym was the only subject that I sucked at, aside from popularity, I could afford to sit this one out. What had happened to make me so good all of a sudden? Was I really a diamond in the rough? I decided that it was just luck and tuned in to class.

As if I hadn't already been surprised enough for one day, my principal burst into the room and said the unheard of. "Grade nine sudents, I would like you to welcome a new student into your class. This is Skylar Brooklyn, and she will be joining the school as of today." As he said her name, she stepped into the light of the classroom. I knew my eyes were playing tricks on me, because it looked as if the double-bar lights that had been replaced about a million times because students had knocked the rough casing off, had put her in the spotlight. She was hot, like, T.D.B hot. There was no other way to put it. She had blonde hair that rolled down to just under her breast in golden waves, and here eyes were a deep shade of brown, she wore a sky blue top and a black leather jacket. Her jeans were ripped, probably designer's, I noted, and her nails were painted black, like her boots that matched her jacket. Once people turned their heads toward me I knew that I was staring, so I looked away. I wished that I hadn't.

Then I realised that my classmates weren't looking at me- they were looking at her- and she came right down the aisle and sat in the empty seat next to me. Even though I was bursting at the seams with joy, I knew she probably sat there bcause Cole was on her right. She was on either side of the most popular and most un-popular boys in the school. I looked over at Sora Haelyn, Cole's girlfriend, oh yeah, she was fuming, no girl liked it when someone was prettier than them, and Skylar beat her by a landslide. The rest of math class passed quickly and we left as soon as the bell tolled.

As I opened my locker to retrieve my history book, I was again surprised. The empty locker next to mine had a lock on it now, on it was a picture of a boy who looked alot like me. It didn't occur to me that my five-locker down bubble of isolation was compromised until later, but it didn't matter anymore, because I had come to believe that the new girl had a crush on me before she even met me. I smiled at the thought. Love before first sight. It fit. Skylar was on my mind all through the day, and then some, I fell asleep picturing her perfect smile that I had only seen once, when I had choked on my chocolate milk at lunch, to be exact. Life was taking a turn in my favour, and I planned to milk this opportunity dry.
