Wake up, eat, go to school, come home, eat, sleep, repeat. I had gone through this schedule for my whole life. But ever since I laid my eyes on Skylar Brooklyn, I could never be the same, today was the day. I was going to talk to her. Even if I melted from being anywhere near her, I would do it.
The bus ride was longer than usual, and all that I could think about was those golden waves of hair. Well, Skylar's hair and her locker clip. what was with the picture on it anyway? There must be some other reason why she would have my face on her locker clip. Right? I mean, who was I kidding? A girl as pretty as her wouldn't go for a guy like me, she would go for someone like Cole, popular.
I was pulled out of my thoughts as the bus glided to a stop in front of Jack Mason High. I'd only been here since September, so even Skylar wasn't too clueless about how things went -except that she didn't know the ranks.- But being third degree burn hot, or TDB for short, she was born to be the number one girl for her entire life and even past that. Yeah, there was no way that I could get to her in time, but that wouldn't stop me from trying, since no one had tried to talk to her yet. I guess that I'll have to be the first.
My heart skipped a dozen beats when she turned the corner. Here was no doubt about it, she was an angel, and I was a mortal, the princess and the pauper, but in this story, they wouldn't trade lives. The pauper was doomed to watch the princess walk by his window each morning, until the day he dies.
Butterflies fluttered in my stomach as she headed towards me, or her locker, I couldn't tell because I was too busy dealing with the vertigo I got every time she was in the room. I grabbed the door on my locker, trying to steady myself and hoping that she wouldn't notice. Especially since I was white-knuckling the metallic board on hinges. And then she spoke to me.
"H-hi, I'm S-Skylar Brook Lyn, I-I'm new and..." She cut herself off. "I'm being redundant, aren't I?"
"No, no, you're not, and I guess that it would help if someone could repeat things every now and then, my memory may have been a bit broken since I got a basketball to the face from Cole."
The last part made her giggle, I wanted to see her do it again.
"Say... are you busy tomorrow?"
"Apart from escaping your pushy man-friends, no, not really."
It was my turn to laugh, the other boys could be that way at times.
"You should have seen the other girl's face when mr.fake-smile tried to talk to me!"
She laughed at the memory and continued.
"She was so mad, I'm pretty sure that I saw actual smoke coming out of her ears, is that how they all are?"
I laughed.
"You mean Sora and Cole?"
"Does Cole have a fake smile?"
"You could call it that."
The bell interrupted our conversation quite abruptly.
"I have to go." "Me too, I'll see you in math class?" "You can count on it." We both turned and headed off to different ends of the school, both replaying the conversation on our minds. Little did we know, a small bond between us had just reinforced itself.
