My math teacher's name was Miss Ada Hemsworth, she was clearly in her seventies and she was due to retire, but every time the other staff brought it up, she would go into a fit saying that we needed her and that she couldn't let us go for the world. I would have been happier if she hadn't called me back to stay after class. She didn't really tell me, she just shot me a look that said 'Please stay back after class,' or 'we need to talk.' I didn't dislike her, I just didn't want to stay after class.

"And so if you carry the one, you get 1'308'045." She droned on and on about whatever she was talking about, but I wasn't listening, I was too busy texting Skylar.

So you went to school in Queens?

Yeah, It's pretty nice, but the math program was terrible.

And this is better how?

Ada is the best math teacher in the province, so you'd better pay attention.

Are you?

Am I what?

Paying attention?

No.

Hypocrite.

She laughed out loud at the last text, making every head turn in her direction. I saw her face turn a pale red.

"Miss Brooklyn, would you like to share the purpose of your outburst to the entire class?" Ada was a good teacher, but she sure didn't get kids.

"We were texting." I blurted, making everyone look over at me.

"About what, may I ask, Ryan James Carter?"

I winced when she called me by my full name. She usually only called us by our last with a bit of formality at the front, so when she called me by my first name for the first time, I knew that I was in trouble.

"Various topics." I mumbled.

She shook her head, wrong answer.

"Would one of those topics be my math class?" She inquired.

I blinked once, confirming her suspicions.

"Then I shall have to confiscate both of your phones, your parents will have to come pick them up."

I shot her the angriest glare that I could muster, she knew that my parents were both dead. Then, I got up, and stormed out of the room.
