Neymar chugs his drink down. He's been drinking a lot and Lionel starts to get worried.
"Ney.. Maybe you should stop," he says softly
"Cmon Leo! Let's celebrate!"
"You've celebrated enough. Ney, let's go home."
"Shut up. You're just mad you lost.. I mean honestly Leo.. You should've played for Spain from the start. You would've had a World Cup and wouldn't have anything else to prove to people who see you as a failure," Neymar slurs out
"Ney.. You're drunk.. Stop talking."
"No Leo.. This team has done nothing but bring you down. They don't even appreciate a single thing you do for them. Your own country hates you!"
If Lionel were a woman, he would've smacked Neymar right across the face.
"I'm just saying... You guys are terrible.. You'll never win anything with them."
"Well.. Since you know so much about winning shit.. It's time for you to lose something."
"And what is that?"
"Me."
Neymar suddenly felt very sober. He began to panic.
"Leo.. You're joking right?" Neymar says frantically
"No Ney.. It's time we end this."
Lionel walks off without letting Neymar say another word. Neymar doesn't chase after him. He drinks more and more until Marcelo finally finds him.
"He broke up with me," Neymar whimpers
"You're drunk Ney," Marcelo says
"Leo.. Leo.. Don't leave me.." Neymar starts to sob
Marcelo gives him strange looks. Lionel wouldn't break up with Neymar. They're too in love with each other to ever end things. And if it's about the match, he knows they're both professionals. They wouldn't end things simply because of a match.
"LEOOOO!!"
Neymar sobs the entire night. Marcelo decides to call Lionel once Neymar has finally fallen asleep.
"Can you come and see Neymar? I think he needs you."
"Why?"
"He's been crying all night.. Talking about how you've broken up with him.. He's inconsolable."
"I did break up with him."
"Why?" Marcelo asks
"Neymar said things I just can't look past.. He was way too cruel.. I finally saw the way he truly looked at me and the way he felt towards me. "
"Leo.. You better than anyone should know that Neymar says the dumbest things when he's drunk. "
"Marcelo.. He said so many cruel things.. And the worst part about them is that he was completely right. It was so hurtful and I felt myself break slowly with every word he said. But what hurt me more was that he was right."
"Leo... If it was something about your team.. Neymar cares about you and he wants you to show everyone that you can do it all. He knows how much you try and it's not fair that you're stuck in a place where you have to do it all. That's not how it's supposed to work."
"Yeah I know," Lionel says softly
"Trust me. Neymar has been your biggest fan for the longest time. Being able to play beside you was the best thing that ever happened to him. And being able to be beside you.. To be your lover and friend.. That made his entire being explode. He would do anything for you."
Marcelo was right. Neymar had been in love with Lionel ever since he discovered what the word even meant. He wanted to be beside him forever. He was so in love with Lionel. He would do anything for him.
"Please take care of him," Lionel says before hanging up

"You feeling better?" Marcelo asks
"Yeah I'm fine," Neymar says quietly
"What's going on through your mind?"
"I should quit drinking."
