*sigh* Here's the deal

*sigh* Here's the deal...I've only seen a few live action musicals in person, including one on Broadway, and none of them were my favorite, except Beauty and the Beast, so I can't make a list. I also watched almost every MGM musical in existence but I don't feel like talking about them...

Instead, I shall list my favorite Shakespeare film adaptations! Something I think Captain Shakespeare would approve of...

i. goes to 2000 Hamlet starring Ethan Hawke, Julia Stiles, and the ever perfect Steve Zhan (to name a fraction of this amazing cast). Now. I know practically everyone hates this version, but as a not-too-distant angsty teenager myself - deeply rooted in the glorious VHS 90's - there's a welcoming familiarity about Hawke's depressed, video editing Hamlet, coupled with the slutty urban backdrop, that makes me want to get lost in the sarcastic introspection forever.

"to be or not to be? that is the question."

ii. You can thank Julia Stiles for this one as well, 1999 Ten Things I Hate About You a.k.a. The Taming of the Shrew. Not only is Heath Ledger in it. Because he is. And not only do I love Kat. But I also don't feel the need to convert people to like this one, everyone loves it. So I'm gonna fill this paragraph with nothingness to make it look as impressive as the one above. That way, no one thinks I'm playing favorites. Mission accomplished? I think so.

"do you want this in iambic pentameter?"

iii. This one is tricky. I hate Romeo and Juliet. The story drives me nuts. I mean, I get it...but all I really see is a lack of fundamental communication skills (which I'm assuming is the point). However, the 2013 adaptation is so full of prettiness, it had to make my list. I only hope that the up and coming TV series Still-Starcrossed will make more sense of the plot - plus, finally giving us a diverse cast!

"hold! it is time for peace."

And if anyone is curious...it's ABC so my hopes aren't that high...
