Epilogue

"Harry!" Emily yelled down the corridor. "Where are the extra boxes?"

"I put them on the kitchen island," He replied. Emily walked out to the kitchen and there on the island were boxes stacked ontop each other. She took one off the top and as if on que, there was a knock on the door. She moved to the front door all while making weird faces at Darcy who was in the living room to make her laugh.

Emily was quite surprised to see Mandy, the lead detective that was on Darcy's case, standing the hallway of our apartment building. "Mandy?!"

"Emily!" She opened her arms for a hug like they were old time friends. Emily accepted with a quick hug back.

"What are you doing here? I didn't expect to see you!" Emily said out of shock.

"I came by because I needed to talk to you about something. Uh, can I come in?"

"Oh yah!" Emily stepped out of the way, "Sure! You're going to have to excuse the boxes. We're in the middle of packing up."

"Are you moving somewhere?"

Emily nodded her head as she cleared space for Mandy to walk in the living and sit on the couch. "Darcy and I are moving to London to live with Harry. Harry, honey, will you come out here for a minute?"

Emily returned and took a seat on the couch before Harry appeared into the small living room stacked with boxes. He gave a big smile to Mandy and greeted her with a hug. "Good to see you, Mandy," before he sat on the floor, taking his daughter onto his lap. I looked over at the women who had a hand in getting my life somewhat back to normal, "Is everything OK?"

"Everything's good, everything's good. How are you feeling after everything?"

"I feel fine. It's just good to be with Darcy again. My concussion has subsided and my the bruising in my ribs are almost unnoticeable. Things couldn't be better actually. We're all doing wonderful." While saying the last sentence, Emily looked to her daughter and the father of her child messing around and laughing on the living room floor. "We haven't gotten publicity yet about Darcy coming home, but no one said there aren't reporters waiting in London for our arrival."

The room fell into a comfortable silence with the giggles of Darcy bring joy to everyone's ears. "Emily, dear. There was something that came to talk to you about." Mandy said.

Emily nodded for her to go on. "Remember telling you a couple weeks ago about there being another child, a six year old boy, that we thought was kidnapped years before this happened?"

Emily nodded once more.

"We found him, alive. We tried reaching out to family who could take him but as you know his mother was killed and his only family are a bunch of drunken teenagers who are barely coherent to listen to a conversation." Mandy reached into her bag and pulled out a school photo of a young bit with dusty blonde hair and brown eyes with slightly tanned skin. "He has no family left, Emily. He's an orphan."

The last word really hit home to Emily. An orphan. He really doesn't have anyone left.

"He's in a foster home right now. He's being fed, clothed, and he has a roof over his head, but no one I've talked to have been interested in taking him. I knew you had a soft spot the moment I told you about him being with Darcy. I thought about you when his social worker called me and asked me if I knew anyone close to him. You three are the closest hems got to a family."

"So what are you asking?" Harry asked in the floor trying to calm the squirming girl in his lap.

"Mitch is such a sweet boy, he really is. He's so polite and he doesn't have anywhere else to go. Why I'm asking is- Would you be willing to become certified and adopt Mitch into your family?"
