*Harry's POV*

My blankets were off of me with in minutes of disconnecting from Emily. I should have stayed on the phone. At least that way I would been able to know when something was wrong. Opening my door and running out into the open space of the living room, I grabbed my keys from the table in the hallway and rushed out the door. The way to Emily's friends house was pretty fuzzy in the back of my mind, but once I got on that side of town it cleared up.

I pulled up infront of the building ready to get out and search for the apartment but the girls were already running out to my car. I got out and sheltered them as much as I could with my arms. As far as I know, they could still be watching. I shut the door before Emily and her friend were even situated and ran to my side. I was driving toward my side of town before I knew it.

"Are you both ok? No one's hurt right?" I asked the company of my car.

They both shook their heads. As fas whay I could see, Emily was shaking from fear in the passenger seat, and I'm sure Haydn was too.

"What happened exactly?" I pried. I'm sure the last thing they want to do is to talk about what they just went through. Heck, they probably won't be able to sleep at all tonight. but surprising enough, Haydn was out in the back seat curled into a ball next to the window. When I looked at Emily, she was wide awake. No sign of exhaustion on her face.

"Why don't you go to sleep Emmy? I can wake you up when we're at the hotel."

"I can't, Harry. How am I supposed to sleep, or do anything for that matter, after being put through what just happened? I could have easily been killed. Haydn could have been killed by one bullet." I looked over at Emily just in time to notice a couple tears fall down the side of her cheek. "I can't afford to loose another close friend."

I pulled over onto the side of the road as quickly as I could and put my rental in park. Emily wiped her eyes and looked at me for an explanation. I took her hand and looked dead straight into her eyes, "Emily, nothing is going to happen to you. I promise. I'm here for you. When I said it yesterday, I meant it. If hadn't meant it, you wouldn't be in my car right now safe. It's possible you could be laying on the floor of your friend's apartment."

Emily cringed at the thought and I immediately regretted what I had said.

"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. I should have worded that better. Bottom line is you should feel safe, you should feel comfortable, and you should feel confident that all of this will end positively. It's just a matter of waiting. When we get to the hotel, you really should try to sleep. I'll carry Haydn up to the room and set her on the couch."

Emily shook her head, "I think you should just take her into Niall's room. She's going to want to spend tonight with him, expecially after what happened."

"Niall's room? She's one of your friends. How would she know Niall?" I asked.

"Niall and Haydn have been dating for a couple weeks. I'm not sure what Niall's said, or whether he's said anything at all, but Haydn just can't stop talking about him." Emily explained.

"Oh! Actually, he has ranted non-stop about a girl he's been seeing and he was overly extatic to here because he would be able to spend more time with her. When you said Haydn a couple days ago or whenever, I never connected the two." I said.

We fell a little silent, and I withdrew my hold on Emily's left hand.

"If it would make you more comfortable, you can sleep in my bed and I can sleep on the couch tonight. You would probably like the feel of sleeping in a real bed after what happened, right?" I asked her.

Emily's eyes read surprise, "Really? You'd be ok with that?"

I nodded, "Yeah, I guess so."

Emily nodded, "Thanks. That woud be great."

We fell into a silence, but it was more comfortable. She had stopped crying for now, but who knew when that could return. Emily hasn't showed much emotion since everything happened. I would have expected her to isolate herself behind a locked door crying until she was too dehydrated to cry anymore. Instead, she's agreed to come out to lunch with me and three complete strangers and later watch movies with them late into the night. Now that I think about how she's reacted, it kind of worries me. I've read people react the way she has and they ended up in pretty bad shape. We're talking going into therapy and moving into a place that helps them do everyday things because they can no longet do it themselves.

I parked in my usual parking spot and Emily and I climbed out. As I had thought, Haydn hadn't woken up yet. I managed to move my seat forward and fit myself in the back where I could pick her up and carry her out of the car. That seemed to have turned into a fifteen process alone trying to manuever Haydn out of the small door opening without hitting her head, but I eventually did it and Haydn slept through the whole thing.

Once up in the room Emily opened Niall's door and I walked in to place Haydn on his bed under the covers, but of course Niall took up the whole bed this one time. I was able to shove him with my foot and he stirred.

"Niall, move your ass over." He listened but must have fallen back to sleep immediately. I placed Haydn on the bed and covered her with Niall's duvet.

I lightly shut the door and returned to my room already prepared to clean the room a bit for Emily to walk around in and peel the covers of my bed back for her but she was already nuzzled into my pillow under my duvet. I smiled at her peaceful body who was only moments ago out of breath, gasping from shock. I took my other pillow and laid on the couch with a blanket from the hall closet and eventually was able to fall into a deep sleep, but it didn't go uninterrupted.

"Pst, Harry. Harry!" Someone nudged me in my arm and I opened my eyes slowly to see who it was. Niall was hovering over me. I sat up causing him to back up out of my space.

"What?" I rubbed my eyes.

"She's been out on the balcony with only sweats and a t-shirt crying. She won't talk to me and she won't come in." I looked in the direction the silhouette if Niall's arm was pointing to. Emily was sitting in a wicker chair looking at the cities lights. Her body was shaking indicating she was crying.
