Story
Chapter One
Laughter filled Blue's ears, as well as the air. She let out a puff of air as she failed yet again to make the jump across the two boulders required to pass the exam-the exam to earn her rank in her pack. That's not to say she had passed the other exams as well. She had failed the sprinting exam as well as the shrew hunting. Being a juvenile, still- many of her siblings had already received their ranks. Brent, her mentor and supervisor in her training, shook his head disappointedly. “Look at her,” one of the subordinates, Skillet, scoffed. “This has to be her fiftieth try. She just flings herself off the rock. What a greenhorn!” Blue's fur pricked with heat and she felt herself blushing fiercely with embarrassment. With her tail between her legs, she began to slink off, casting one more look over her shoulder. Skillet and the other high ranking subordinate wolves held their tails high and huffed with laughter, all except Randall, the large black wolf, who looked a bit uncomfortable with all of the commotion. Blue had the respect of no wolves-except her father, Steven. Blue knew her mother Zephyr was not proud of her daughter. She knew if she were to receive any rank at all, she would be lucky to even become an omega, and not an outcast.
She walked very slowly to her nursing den. That's where she lived-for now. Her mother was inside with her new litter of pups. None of Blue's siblings that were in the same litter that she was in still stayed in the den. She felt awkward to still be in here, especially with the other wolf mothers with their new pups. Zephyr shot Blue a glittering look, and her eyes pierced Blue deeply. Blue knew it was immediate signal to leave Zephyr's sight and go to her own nest, in the corner of the den. Blue felt very hurt. She knew it was her own fault that her mother felt this way, but she wished that Zephyr still loved her.
