"It's me," came the voice again. Reed recognized the tiny voice of Akira. "Hi, Akira," Reed said, his ears pricking forward. Akira slunk in. He sat and watched Reed for a few seconds.
Akira pricked his ears forward, his scrawny butt rising up off the ground. "What's that you're sitting on, Reed?" He took a step forward.
"It's nothing," Reed snapped, harsher than he intended to. Akira immediately jumped back, his eyes flashing in alarm. "S-sorry, Reed," he said, quivering. "I-I only wanted to see if you wanted some food..." Akira reached behind himself, threw a a snowhare at Reed and sped off.
Reed looked at the hare, its white fur beginning to gleam in the rising moonlight. Sensing commotion outside, he pricked his ears. Yes, there was commotion. It sounded as wolves were running. Reed began to walk, his claws grazing the stones.
Speeding up to a trot, he noticed a large group of his wolves gathered together. Arch, Ashton and Autumn's son, was up on the Howl Rock, where wolves often gathered for ceremonies.
As Reed entered the circle of wolves, they all began to howl Arch's name.
