The sun was iridescent in the clear winter sky. Snow had fallen the night before, covering Venshear Valley in a peaceful blanket of white.

As usual Rayna was up early getting ready for the day. A beautiful Saturday morning had risen for her birthday. Rayna's 18th birthday.

Rayna started the shower. Taking a brush from the bottom drawer, she regarded her sleep filled hair and eyes. She smiled. Steam filled the bathroom as she combed through her thick curly hair in the water. Rayna hummed an unfamiliar tune. In her dream it played as she danced in a beautiful gown with a beautiful man. She finished and got out.

Rayna wrapped her hair in a towel, put on a robe and went to the kitchen. She pressed start on the coffee maker and put a kettle of water on the stove. Then she went to dress.

Rayna, in the kitchen, took down a small teapot and an herbal tea. She shook the tea into the diffuser and snapped it shut.

Suddenly She was overcome with a wave of nausea. Her entire body tensed. Rayna stumbled over to the sink. It felt as if something was trying to ooze from every pour in her body. Her vision went splotchy and she passed out. The kettle whistled loudly waking her family.

Her sister stomped in angrily, " Kill the kettle." she said rubbing sleep from her eyes. Her mom turns the corner seeing Rayna, rushing to her

"Rayna!" She pats her cheeks but she doesn't stir. Rayna's mom checks her breathing. Steady. Her pulse? Steady.

"Cynthia call an ambulance," she barked. Her father was already there giving them the address.

Rayna's body tensed and relaxed. "Awaken." said a stern deep voice. A voice she didn't recognize. Rayna's eyes fluttered open. She sat up looking around an unfamiliar room till her eyes settled on an unfamiliar man.

" who are you? Where am i? How did i get here?" The man held up his thick hand.

" all will be answered in due time." he said reassuringly. He stepped into the light.

He was a tree of a man. Broad shoulders, broad chest, beard of a lumber jack. His eyes were a kind blue like the ocean. He stood sturdy in his stance. Chin held high. Confident.

" i am Adonis,"

'Fitting' she thought.

" i am your mothers brother." Adonis saw her confused look and continued.

" Before you were born, there a was a war of sorts. Beasts against our kind and our allies. Viveec kind that is. Your mother fled with you after your father was killed, to the human realm." Rayna looked as if she was about to call bullshit.

"Right now I have brought you into a world beyond the subconscious. Only those of us Viveecians that have a natural affinity or have trained many years in magic can get here. I must admit the first time getting here is bloody awful." He chuckled in reverie of his first time.

" To prove I am sincere, I will go back with you." Rayna agreed.

She had no idea if this was real or not. The throbbing in her head was to real for a dream.

Adonis took a deep breath and bellowed an incantation. She began to felt a subdued stomach churning feeling. Her vision went out and she passed out.

She awoke with a gasp on her kitchen floor surrounded but E.M.Ts and a worried family. She sat up slowly looking around. She locked eyes with her mother.

"Whoa." she said trying to stand. Rayna got to her feet with help from the E.M.Ts

"I'm alright thank you. I don't think i need a hospital." She took a deep breath letting it out slow.

The E.M.Ts departed leaving Rayna with a stunned and confused family. Everyone left to go put on day cloths.

"What in the hell just happened?" her dad asked her mother as they walked away. Her mother shrugged rubbing the back of her neck. Rayna turned the kettle back on to warm, and grabs a tea cup from the from a cabinet.

Cynthia returned and sat on a stool watching Rayna flow around the room as if nothing happened. Rayna took down a mug poured coffee for her family and set them on the table and sat next to her sister on a stool.

'He's not going to come.' she thought, 'It was probably just a hallucination' She sipped her tea.

Her parents crested the corner as a shimmer of light began in the kitchen. The light expanded and Adonis stepped through. The light faded. Her mother gasped.

"Hello again." Rayna held up a hand. Cynthia looked between her and Adonis, mouth agape. Adonis inclined his head.

"Donny?" Her mom stepped forward.

"Meriella." He said as if a wait had been lifted off his shoulders. Meriella stepped into his open arms. Her father stepped closer to the girls clearing his throat.

"Oh," Meriella turned introducing everyone. "Adam" she gestured to the tall Hispanic man."My brother Adonis. Donny my husband Adam." They stepped forward, both extending a hand. Adonis grabbed his forearm as a sign of respect.

"My daughter Cynthia," He gestured to the very confused young woman with long wavy hair. She smiled. " and it seems as if you already know Rayna."

"My daughter." Meriella chimed.

"Very glad to meet all of you." He gestured to the kitchen table. " May we all sit, i'd like to discuss why I'm here." He pulled out a chair for my mother. They all sat.

"As you know today is Rayna's 18th birthday. 18 years ago you fled with her here from the realm of magic. It is time she learn the truth about her heritage. The reason for her fathers death and who she really is." all was quiet.

"Do you really think she's ready for that Adonis? She only just turned 18." Her mother asked.

"I brought her into the realm beyond the subconscious. Her power is immense, if she doesn't do this now it may over flow and kill her."

Rayna held up a hand. "Whoa, kill me? What power? Explanation please." she said looking between her mother and her uncle.

Meriella exhaled sharply. "Fine she can go but we are going as well. She can't go through this alone."

Adonis smiled. "If she's anything like her father she'll do very well." he looked at her. "Rayna you have incredible magic that lives within you. This realm is a dampener for all magical creatures. I know you've had the dreams." Rayna looked away

"What dreams?" both her sister and her dad asked.

"Sometimes my dreams are premonitions of the future." she brushed the questions off.

"These dreams are just the start. If you come train with me there are infinite possibilities of what you could do." Rayna considered it.

"And my family can come if they wish?" she asked. He nodded.

She looked to them questioningly. "I am so there." Cynthia was very enthused. He mother nodded in agreement. Adam sighed.

"You told me this may happen when i married you. I will support my family through anything." He took Rayna by the hand. " I'll be there." Rayna beamed.

"Very well then," He clapped his hands. "I have asked someone to reopen the portal in an hour. I suggest you gather your things" The family dispersed.
