It was finally Thursday morning and I couldn't believe today I was actually going to meet One Direction. I jumped into the shower before going downstairs to grab something to eat. When I went downstairs I noticed a note on my counter that I assumed was from my mother. It basically said she had to take Zoë to the doctor and wouldn't be back to say goodbye to me before I left for the concert. Under the note was some cash and an extra house key so I could get in tonight without having to wake everybody up by ringing the doorbell. As soon as I was about to fix myself some toast my phone rang.

"Hello?" I said in the middle of yawning.

"Hey Ruby!" Mia shouted into the phone. She always sounded so bubbly and happy with her high pitched voice. "Are you excited for tonight?"

"You bet I am!" I responded a little more enthusiastic then I was trying to sound.

"Um.. so how are you wearing your hair?" Mia asked me. I threw my head back and laughed probably harder than I should be. That was such a typical Mia question. She always cared so much about the way she looked and never looked anything short of perfect, and boys definitely appreciated her perfect looks. Mia was always either dating someone or constantly texting boys.

"I uhh... um.. I don't really know.." I responded. I was usually the kind of girl to just throw my hair up into a pony tail or leave it a brown curly mess. I didn't really care about my looks that much. That's probably why we are such great friends. Boys didn't really pay attention to me at all. I've probably only had two boyfriends in my whole eighteen years of life.

"I guess... I will.. um... straighten my hair" I should probably attempt to look somewhat decent today right?

"Ah! Yay!!" Mia squealed. " I will see you in a few hours!" she responded.

After two hours of trying to tame my unruly mane, I succeeded and my hair actually looked good. I threw on some makeup and got dressed into the outfit Mia picked out for me. It was a cute tank with some denim shorts and a pair of sandals I had already owned.

I went downstairs to grab my keys and the money my mom left me. On the drive over to Mia's house I was analyzing everything I would say and do when we met them.

~

The whole drive up to Charlotte Mia and I were singing, laughing, and carrying on to the one direction soundtrack. I was so excited that I was sharing this moment with my best friend. Mia and I had been friends ever since I could remember. Our dads grew up together but even after my dad left me and my family Mia and I stayed friends. I am so thankful that we did because I don't really have any other friends.

High school was a really hard time for me. My dad had just started drinking and being abusive and I didn't have anyone to turn to because I was so afraid of someone finding out. I don't know what I would have done without Mia. She helped me through all of the terrifying moments and at times when I had no one to turn to she was always there for me. "God, I am so glad high school is over" I thought to myself.

My thought were interrupted by Mia turning down the radio.

"Ruby?" she asked with concern in her tone.

"Yeah?"

"Who.. do .. you want to.. stand next to.. in the picture?" she asked. Her tone was extremely serious.

I threw my head back and laughed. I wasn't as obsessive over One Direction as she was. But I definitely enjoyed their music. Mia was a HUGE Zayn girl so I knew that's who she wanted to meet the most. She had posters of him covering every single inch of her bedroom, which was pretty impressive considering the massive size of her room. Her dad was the CEO of a big advertising company and her mother was an oral surgeon. So being an only child, Mia was pretty spoiled.

"I will stand next to anyone Mia" I laughed

"As long as I get to stand next to Zayn!" she said with a smirk on her face

"Deal!" I yelled as Mia and I busted into laughter and blasted 'Little White Lies' for the rest of the car trip.

After spending about fifteen minutes trying to find a decent parking spot we finally found one that was only a five minute walk away from the arena. Mia and I started to walk towards the arena and the closer we got the more fans I noticed walking around. They were all around fourteen or thirteen years old. They all had on adorable and cheesy homemade t-shirts. If I were four years younger I would probably be wearing one.

Mia and I waited in the line to get into the arena for about 10 minutes. As we got closer and closer to the front my heart was beating faster and faster. I couldn't believe I was this excited about meeting five boys.

As soon as the concert was over a middle aged lady came onto the stage and told us that anyone who had meet and greet passes needed to report to the front of the stage in five minutes. Mia turned to me and squealed.

"I cant believe this is happening, Ruby!" Mia shouted to me.

"Pinch me... so I know I'm not dreaming." I said. and sure enough Mia pinched my arm as hard as she could.

"Ouch!" I screamed surprised she actually pinched me.

"I didn't mean literally" I said sarcastically. I turned to Mia and laughed and we started working our way up the many rows of seats. When we reached the base of the stage a large man was stood waiting for all of us. When there was about ten other girls waiting with us the man turned to us and asked us to follow him backstage.

When we got backstage the large man offered us if we would like any waters and I kindly rejected the offer. Mia accepted the water, and when I looked over to her she had chugged the whole thing, somehow she managed to spill majority of the beverage on the front of her shirt.

"Did you miss your mouth?" I asked sarcastically. Mia was about to open her mouth to say something when she was interrupted by a door slamming open followed by the loudest squeals i have ever heard in my life...
