Blacked Out

Chapter 10

Harry's POV

The hallway Ruby's room was in was much quieter than the rest of the hospital. She was moved out of ICU a couple days ago. She is released from the hospital in a few days and I needed every opportunity I could to try to get to know her better.

I was three rooms away from Ruby's room when a nurse started walking over to me. She was extremely tiny and looked like she was in her mid- twenties. She wasn't ugly but she wasn't the prettiest either.

"I am sorry sir, visiting hours end at seven." she squeaked. She sounded like a mouse. I looked down at the screen of my phone... 7:03. If Finn wouldn't have stopped me in the hallway, I bet I would have been able to get to Ruby's room on time.

"Can I at least go and let her know I will be back in the morning to visit her?" I asked politely. I was trying to not loose my temper with this nurse. I have had enough of annoying nurses today, and wasn't in the mood to start any more issues.

"Yeah, I guess I can let you go for a little bit, but don't be too loud... We have many patients trying to sleep"

"Thanks." I walked passed the nurse and quietly knocked on Ruby's door.

"Harry?" She asked through the closed door.

"Yeah, Its me." I tried to stay as quiet as I could. Speaking barely above a whisper. I opened the door to the room. Ruby was sat up in her bed with a wide grin plastered on her face.

"I didn't think Finn found you! I'm really glad you came. I- uh really need to talk to you.. Its kind of personal but I don't really have anyone else to talk to and I figured you were still here, So I asked Finn to find you but he---"

"It's fine Ruby." I interrupted her rambling. "I would much rather hear about your day than go sit in a hotel room and listen to four boys complain about the rubbish food here." We both started laughing at my remark about the food here. The hospital food was disgusting and I had been eating it for four days. I tried my best to not complain about it but the other boys did not hold back at all.

Ruby's POV

"I would much rather hear about your day, than go sit in a hotel room and listen to the four boys complain about the rubbish food here." Harry told me. I continued to tell him about the surprising voicemail my father had left me. Harry didn't talk. He just listened.

"I know absolutely nothing about you Ruby. I feel like I know you better than I really do so, I want you to tell me about the real Ruby Miles."

"Well I could say the same about you, Harry Styles." I playfully responded.

"I have an idea..." Harry smirked. "Let's play a game."

"How is a game supposed to help us get to know each other?" I asked, confused about what he just told me.

"I am going to ask you a question, and then you have to ask me a question." He responded. "Me and the boys used to do this all the time when we first met. It's really fun, and we will get to know a lot about each other."

"Do we answer the question the other person asked?" I questioned, confused on the rules of the game.

"You don't have to... but no matter what you have to end with a question. Got it?"

"Okay you start." I told the boy sitting on the end of my bed.

"What's your full name?"

"Ruby Alyssa Miles. My grandmother's name was Ruby, and my mom's name is Alyssa, so my parents put the two together and voila! What's yours?" I asked getting the hang of the idea of the game.

"Harry Edward Styles. I don't really have a cool story behind my name though... My parents just liked the sound of it I guess. Do you have any siblings?" Harry asked continuing the game.

"I have a younger sister named Zoë. She's five. Do you have any siblings?"

"I have an older sister named Gemma. How old are you? I realized I have been talking to you this whole time and for all I know you could be fourteen years old..."

"I am eighteen" I said laughing. "How old are you?"

"Twenty. Ruby... Are you a virgin?" The smirk on his face grew wider and I could feel my cheeks heating.

"Uhhh..I-I..." I stuttered and tried to hide my embarrassment. Then I remembered Harry telling me I didn't have to answer his question. I just had to end my sentence with a question. "What's your favorite color?"

"Ha-Ha. Way to get out of that question Ruby... My favorite color is green. I am not going to ask you what yours is though, because I already know the answer to that question." he smiled

"How do you know what my favorite color is?" I questioned confused to how he knew the answer to that question.

"I know it's blue because that's the color you changed you leg cast to." He laughed.

Yesterday when I woke up some doctor came into my room and changed the color of the hard cast on my leg. He told me "since I was awake this time I could pick the color." So of course I chose my favorite color.

"Well actually its teal... but this was the closet thing they had to it" I sarcastically replied. I jokingly kicked Harry with my cast in his arm and he pretended it hurt by shouting "Ouch!"

"You're a baby" I teased. 

"That wasn't a question" He snickered.

We were both crying from laughing so hard and as soon as we started to stop the nonsense a nurse walked into my room.

"You are disturbing other patients, so I am going to have to ask your visitor to leave for the night." She squawked. She was very manly looking and wasn't someone who's bad side I wanted to get on.

"Alright well I will be back her in the morning with the rest of the boys. So I will see you later, Ruby Alyssa Miles." He smirked.

"Alright Harry. Thanks for listening to me tonight." I told him. I was so thankful he was here for me when I had no one.

"Anytime. Goodnight Ruby." He said flicking off my lights and closing the door behind him.

"Good night Harry." I whispered to the closing door across my room.
