The cafeteria was as boring as my hospital room. White walls, white floors, grey tables, and ugly metal chairs, that looked the least bit comfortable.
"What can I get you to eat?" Harry asked me. There were several food stands, none of them looked very appetizing though.
"Um... Surprise me?" I asked. I wasn't meaning to ask a question, but the words came out of my mouth sounding like it.
"Yeah sure! I will be right back." Harry said as he pushed my wheelchair closer to the table he selected for us and the four other boys.
Zayn sat down next to me and the other boys pulled up chairs around the small table I was seated at. I felt really uncomfortable and didn't really know what to say.
Niall cleared his throat... "I am really sorry all of this happened Ruby. You don't deserve any of this to happen to you and it just a shame..." his voice started to trail off and I could tell he didn't want to talk about the subject anymore. "...I bet you really miss her." Niall said his voice becoming clearer.
"Oh... yeah I do." I knew the blonde boy was talking about Mia. "It's been really hard but I know she's in a better place." I told the Irish boy. "They want to take her off of life support but they cant get in contact form her parents, so they are waiting to see if they can get a hold of them." I explained to Niall.
"What about your family? Aren't they wondering where you are?" Niall asked me. For the four days I have been here I have been texting my mother telling her that we ran into some friends that lived in the area and we were staying with them for a week or two. The last thing I want is for her to worry about me and stress over this whole situation. She has enough to deal with.
"Um... They've visited me a few times..." I lied. The three other boys stopped their small talk amongst themselves and looked at me. I think they knew I was lying.
After a few minutes of random conversation with Niall, Liam, Zayn, and Louis, Harry returned with a tray full of food. He brought me some sort of sandwich and soup. After I thanked him, he sat down on the other side of me.
"Anytime Ruby... Let me know if there is absolutely anything else you need. I really want to help you. We really want to help you" He said pointing to the rest of the boys. " We all know how hard this is for you and we are beyond sorry for you. You didn't deserve for this to happen, nobody does." The way Harry said this warmed my heart. His words were so comforting. I had never felt this close to anyone in my life, other than Mia, and I had never gotten so close to someone in such a short amount of time. I was so thankful I had so many people supporting me. It was amazing to think that I was meeting these sweet boys just a few days earlier. They seemed completely different then they did the first time I met them.
"Thank you so much" I said. I was at a complete and utter loss for words. People weren't usually this nice to me. "I'm really sorry about your tour bus.." I told them. I had found out that their bus was totaled and they had to postpone the rest of the tour.
"It wasn't as bad as you think it was Ruby..." Louis spoke up. "It wasn't actually tote--" Liam nudged his arm interrupting louis before he could finish his sentence.
"It's not that big of a deal." Harry spoke. "Shit happens and sometimes you just have to move on and not worry about it." The curly haired boy told me. Every time Harry spoke, he sent chills down my spine. He always seemed so calm and always knew the right thing to say.
"Do the fans know why the tour was postponed?" I asked.
The boys all gave each other the same weak smiles.
"Yeah they do." Liam said. "The press found out and its all over the tabloids and news." oh no. If it was all over the news my mother would find out about this sooner or later. I was really hoping it would be a lot later though...
"Do you think you could walk be back to my room?" I asked the guys.
"Sure.. I will." Harry said. He told the other boys that he was going to take me to my room and that he would meet them back down in the cafeteria.
After walking the series of long narrow hallways, to get to the elevators. Harry, pushed the up button and we waited for the next elevator to get to us. I hated elevators so much, they freaked me out more than anything. I think Harry could tell that I was uncomfortable becasue he squeezed my shoulder and gave me a sympathetic smile.
"Are you okay?" He asked me.
"Yeah, I just don't really like elevators." I said with a weak laugh.
"Well then I will hold your hand" He responded with a smirk. He grabbed my hand and held it for the entire elevator ride. His large hands perfectly entwined with mine. Despite my fear of elevators, I didn't want the ride to end. I was so comforted just by Harry's presence. He made this whole situation I have been In so much easier.
Harry's POV
I looked down to see Ruby's face pale and emotionless.
"Are you okay?" I asked. I was scared that she might not have been feeling well. The last thing I wanted was for her to have another heart attack or some shit.
"Yeah, I just dont really like elevators." she said. I knew she was really scared because she let out a weak laugh that made her sound so weak and fragile. Ruby was one of the most beautiful girls I have seen in my life. When I first saw her at the Meet and Greet a few days ago I knew I wanted to get to know her better. The whole drive on the bus after the show, I couldn't stop thinking about her. I wanted to see her again. Little did I know, Our tour bus would crash into her tiny car changing her life forever. Thinking about the fact that her best friend was dead, killed me inside.
I reached down and grabbed Ruby's small hand and laced her fingers between mine. She gave me a comforting smile. I really hoped she felt the same way about me, that I felt about her. Even though I had just met her, I knew she was different from everyone else.
When the lift doors opened, Ruby slipped her hand out of mine and pushed her chair down the hallway to her room. I followed her to her room so I could help her into her bed since she couldn't do that on her own. When I got to her room she had stopped in the middle of the doorway. All the color was drained out of her face, when she looked up and saw a lady and a man, who I assumed were married, standing in her room next to Doctor Lorraine...
