Lancelot's POV
Merlin has been quiet since his mother died. He probably feels betrayed even more now that his uncle's men killed his mother. We buried Hunith and started making our way to the camp Olivia and Merlin rode beside each other in silence, Merlin having a look of hatred on his face but behind that determination. He spoke to no one no matter how hard we tried to get him to talk.
"Hey, Merlin remember when we jumped off that wall while trying to save Arthur's royal behind?" Gwaine said. He received no response, Merlin probably caught in his own thoughts. As the day drew on it continued in silence Arthur saying the odd thing and Anthony making us aware of the length of our journey.
"About five more hours" Anthony said.
"Thank you Anthony!" Arthur shouted back. Hester, Wiad and Blaine were quiet most of the ride looking towards Olivia every once in a while with sad expressions on their faces. None of my friends knew the true reason behind Olivia's sadness, they all believed it was because she had known Hunith from the "visits" to Ithel. David would ride up beside her every now and then to try and comfort her, she would turn give a sad smile and her eyes would return back to the path ahead. The Ithelian Knights also remained quiet most of the time, only speaking to let us know the length of the journey or to try to speak with their Prince and Princess unaware to the Camelotian Knights. We continued on our path until we heard a twig snap. Immediately Merlin dismounted his horse grabbed for Olivias sword (his being a secret) and walked to where the sound had come from.
"Merlin! What are you doing!?" Arthur shout-whispered. Merlin exited the woods with his sword to the neck of another man. He throws him to the ground and aims the sword at his neck once more. Arthur, and the other Camelotian Knights all looked at Merlin in shock.
"Why are you following us?!" He shouted, the man gulped.
"I was- I was sent t- to make sure you weren't M-M-Markus' men" he said voice shaky.
"Why is that then?" Merlin asked voice full of authority. The man seemed to notice who he was speaking to and was about to say something when Merlin gave him a quick concentrated look.
"Because we can't let Markus' men know where we are hiding" he said much calmer now.
"Alright, then you can help us get to the camp" the man nodded his head.
"May I retrieve my horse?" Merlin nodded and the man stood to retrieve his steed. He returned quickly mounted atop a beautiful mare. Merlin mounted his own horse and gave Arthur a quick look.
"Merlin? What the hell was that?" Merlin realized what he had just done and his cheeks turned pink.
"I saw him a while back, a-and well I heard the stick and decided to question him." He said rubbing the back of his neck. At least this event pulled him from his stupor.
Merlin's POV
I held the sword to the mans neck.
"Why are you following us?!" I asked loudly. The man before me swallowed the lump in his throat.
"I was- I was sent t-to make sure you weren't M-M-Markus' men" his voice was visibly quivering.
"Why is that then?" I ask filling my voice with the authority it usually possessed to show him who I was. A spark seemed to flash in his mind and he was about to speak so I sent him a mind message. Do not give away my identity, not yet. He visibly calmed and spoke again.
"Because we can't let Markus' men know where we are hiding" he says much less shaky.
"Alright, then you can help us get to the camp" he nodded.
