Chapter 5
Daniel's POV
The bass in the house thudded and seemed to shake all of the shelves and windows. I felt the electric beat pulsate through me as I took another swig of my beer, letting the alcohol flow into my system. I wouldn't mind getting buzzed tonight. Not at all.
My eyes became fixed on Jane who was coming down the stairs after getting changed out of her prom dress. She still looked gorgeous in just her denim shorts, red high tops and her vintage Red Sox tee. She was so beautiful in every way it hurt sometimes. God I'm such a softy.
"Hey Mate, whatcha looking at?" Tristan slapped his hand on my shoulder and followed my gaze over to Jane who was now at the bottom of the steps, talking to Clarisse and another girl.
He let out a low whistle and shook me by my shoulder.
"My Clarisse is looking beautiful isn't she?" Tristan smiled next to me and I let out another sigh of relief. I thought he was going to make another comment about Jane.
"Yeah, congrats bro. I've never seen you like this before!"
"Clarisse is different though, I don't know why but she just is." He grinned and she waved over at us. This caused Jane to turn her head and smile before coming over.
"Hey Mr. Designated Driver, what's that you've got?" She pointed to the red plastic cup in my hand.
"Oh shit I forgot, I was just going to have a couple." She waved me off. "Its fine, only teasing. Clarisse said we could get a ride back because she doesn't want to drink."
I nodded and took another sip of the cheap beer.
"Hey you wanna come dance?" She grabbed one of my hands and led me into the living room where the music thudded and screeched even louder.
We were pressed in between other sweaty bodies and I wondered if this is what a club was like. If so I knew I wouldn't like clubs all that much.
Pretty soon we were somehow in the middle of everyone, and could find no way out.
"Here, watch this." Jane whispered shouted in my ear.
Then she screamed at the top of her lungs and yelled, "I think I just saw Tristan's snake slither that way!"
She pointed in front of us and the crowd parted like the red sea. Not without quite a few shrieks and jumps though. We quickly slipped through before the way closed and we would be trapped again. When we were out Jane started laughing.
"What's so funny?"
"Just that Tristan doesn't have a snake."
"Yes he does." I confirmed.
Her face paled a bit.
"You mean I actually saw a snake, not just a scarf?" I nodded my head slowly.
"Well shit! Lets get out of this room before it kills us!" She grabbed my hand and tugged me outside to the pool area.
"Up for a swim?" Jane asked and I nodded.
"Best entry into the pool wins a back massage." I clarified and Jane nodded before stripping down to her swimsuit. It was a plain navy and white striped two piece yet she still looked amazing.
The crowd in the pool parted as we lined up at the diving board.
"Ladies first." I stepped back and she curtsied jokingly.
Jane stepped onto the board and raised her hands in an effort to get some cheers from the crowd, which of course she did. Finally she started a two step run and jumped before flipping three times and entering perfectly into the water. The crowd roared and she resurfaced, pumping her fists in the air.
