After a few months, Shelby has passed her nursing exams and began her intern rotation at the hospital in town. Braden has also been steady at the fire station.
"Any luck with the baby situation? It's been like a year," one of Braden's fire buddies sits down beside him.
"No, not yet and it's probably going to slow down. Shelby's an intern at Northwestern Memorial. She passed her boards."
"That's great man," he smiles. "Maybe you guys weren't meant to have kids."
"Dude don't say that."
"I don't mean ever. I mean maybe right now."
Braden sighs.
"You guys sure you can have kids?"
"We've been to the doctor. They don't see why we haven't had any yet."
"Things happen man. You guys could always adopt."
"Okay, I'm done talking about this bro."
His buddy sighs, getting up and walking away. Luke coming over, sitting beside his brother-in-law.
"How's Shelby's new job?" Luke asks.
"She loves it man."
"Good. Good. You guys coming to the 4th of July BBQ?"
"As far as I know."
"Good. Can't miss the place ya'll met."
"Well see you there," Braden smiles, Luke nods.
