Chapter 8- Looking for Sophia

"Hey Daryl?" I broke the silence between us. We were still in the back of my car, the sun was starting to rise.

"Hm?" He mumbled back at me. I started to trace the tattoo on his chest.

"Who's Sophia?" I asked not taking my focus of his tattoo.

"She's Carol's daughter. Ed, her husband, was attacked at our old camp." He told me.

"What happen to her? Why isn't she here?" I asked, Carol seem like a sweet woman.

"You're full of questions ain't ya?" I chuckled lightly, his chest vibrating underneath my fingertips and head with slight laughter

"There was a herd of walkers that came through here and 2 chased Sophia into the woods and we haven't been able to find her yet." He explained quickly.

"Do you think she's alive?" I asked. There could be a chance to me. But I guess our lives now are all just by chance.

"She's a strong girl. She could be as much as she couldn't be." Daryl told me. I nodded my head.

"Let's get up and dressed again, we can go look for her." He suggested. I got up and pulled on my jeans, combat boots and my shirt again. And got out of the car while Daryl got dress also. I opened the passenger door and grabbed my quiver and put it over my shoulder and then grabbed my bow. I walked around to the other side of the car to see Daryl waiting for me.

"Ready?" He asked and I nodded and we started walking towards the woods. The only person who was awake was Dale and he was keeping watch. I guess.

"Be careful out there. I've seen a couple walkers out there." Dale yelled over at us.

"Thanks.watch out for Kyla for me?" I yelled back, he nodded his head. Daryl and I got over the metal railing and started walking into the forest.

As I was walking I just kept looking at my shoes. That poor girl. It could have been Kyla and I don't what I do if Kyla died.

"Why are you bein' so quiet you're ne-" Daryl stopped mid-sentence and yelled at me "Duck!" I dropped to the ground and Daryl an arrow through the walkers head.

I turned so I was on my back facing the dead walker at my feet. I could have just been bitten. Gone forever.

"you okay, Sunshine?" Daryl asked as he came up behind me and put his forearms underneath my arms and pulled me up without a problem.

"Just shaken up a bit but I'll be fine. Thanks" I took a small step and bent down to pick up my bow, that I dropped when I dropped to the ground. Daryl lightly slapped my ass. I stood up quickly and stared daggers at him.

"And that was for almost dying on me." Daryl playfully told me will putting his foot on the dead walkers head and took the arrow out of its head. I just rolled my eyes and told him

"Let's keep movin' you redneck." I told him and turned on my heel and moved towards the sound of running water. I heard him chuckle. He most likely rolled his eyes at me.

Once we got to the stream I sat down on the bank of it. It was midday, and I was starting to get hungry.

"Daryl? Got any food with ya?" I asked. Daryl took off his backpack and kneeled down. He grabbed out a half piece of bread and gave it to me. He took the other half of it.

"Thank you." I said and started to rip pieces of the bread and put it in my mouth and ate it.

"So Merle's still alive?" He asked me. Trying to break the silence

"Yeah, he seemed to be doing pretty good. If you ask me anyways." I told him

"And he didn't touch or hurt you in anyway. Right?" He asked looking over again like he did yesterday. I looked up at him since he was still kneeling which made him more taller than he normally is.

"He didn't. I promise." I smiled up at him and I saw him physically relax that must still be bothering him. He sat down and pulled me over to him and sat me on his lap and held me close.

"Let's keep moving we're losing daylight." I told Daryl while getting up off his lap.

We kept walking for around another 10 minutes. When we heard a gunshot.

"What was that?" I asked looking around to see if there was anybody coming near us.

"Probably shot down a walker." He keep walking.

"But there was only one shot." I said, realization was all over his face.

"You're right. The group may have some bad ideas but they wouldn't shoot one walker down. They would've use a knife." Daryl more likely told himself then he told me.

"We have to get back to the highway." I looked at him and he nodded and we both ran towards the way we came from. Hopefully everyone was still save.
