Chapter 13- Chasing Cars

I couldn't get the memories of my step-father out of my head. If he lays a hand on Kyla I'll kill him no matter what anybody says or does.

'No RoseAnn, Kyla's safe.' I thought to myself.

Once I got back to Daryl. I saw he already got the tent up. I was shocked. He's really fast at that.

"You okay?" Daryl asked. Worry written on his face.

"Yeah, just bad memories." I told him half the choice, I didn't want him trying to hurt Shane or start more problems.

"Let's go get some food." Daryl said and led me towards the rest of the group where Dale was cooking squirrel.

"Here." Dale handed Daryl and I a plated with some squirrel and some carrots on it. I gave Dale a questioning look.

"Hershel gave us some carrots." I nodded and walked by at tree and sat at the base of it with my back leaning in it; Daryl sat next to me.

"How's Carl doin'?" I asked Rick and Lori.

"He's going to be fine." Rick answered shortly. He looked like he hadn't slept in days same with Lori. I nodded and kept eating. After everyone was done we all went to our tents.

I took off my boots and laid down on the colt that was inside the tent. I was facing the screen window looking at the woods. It seemed peaceful. Nit that anything is peaceful anymore.

"What you thinking a about?" I heard Daryl ask as he laid down behind me his chest against my back one of his hands around my waist.

"Just how peaceful it looks out there." I said grabbing his hand that was around my waist and laced our fingers together I felt him nuzzle his head into my the crook of my neck like he use to do. I smiled remembering how this was how we were most nights before the apocalypse.

"Looks can be deceiving. Can't they?" He asked.

"Ain't that the truth." I replied.

I pulled out the necklace and started playing with the ring with my free hand. There was a silence between us before I started to sing lightly.

We'll do it all

Everything

On our own

We don't need

Anything

Or anyone

If I lay here

If I just lay here

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know

How to say

How I feel

Those three words

Are said too much

They're not enough

If I lay here

If I just lay here

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told

Before we get too old

Show me a garden that's bursting into life
