SKYE
"So tell me about yourself. Who is Skye Roberts?" Carl attempted at conversation as we trudged down seemingly never-ending train tracks. The wind iced against our skin as the sun gradually lingered in the sky.
I chuckled and tore my eyes from the iron stakes set in the ground a very time long ago to look over at boy. I smiled at him, taking in his overgrown hair, watchful eyes, and slightly dirt overlaid face. I had been making myself associate closer with Carl, Rick, and Michonne the past few days; and whether I wanted to admit the fact or not, I felt myself warming up to them.
We were on the way to Terminus as four hopeful survivors with nothing but each other and tragic back stories to push us. Following the tracks, we walked on and on and every passing second had brought me closer to the small range I considered a 'comfort zone' with the three strangers.
As we walked, the weather smelled of crisp fall and the rapidly cooling air stung my face, my cheeks red and blood flushed as the cold gusts and blustery blasts of wind layered it.
"I'm about as interesting as dirt. There's nothing cool about me." I sighed in response to his conversation starting question.
Carl scoffed, rolling his blue eyes. His brown hair shifted around his shoulders as he shook his head in utter disagreement. "That can't be true. Everyone's at least got a story."
I shrugged, gazing ahead at Rick and Michonne. The two walked in silence about five feet in front of us.
"I told you my 'story' the night we met." I motioned quotations marks with my hands. "Well at least you made me, or else you would have shot me." I teased, bumping his shoulder jokingly.
He laughed at my comment, regaining the hold on his duffel bag. "I would not have shot you." He tried. I raised my eyebrow at him.
"Right." I muttered.
"Oh cmon Skye, you know I wouldn't!" He exclaimed, emphasizing his point by throwing his hands in the air dramatically.
"I don't know. I'm pretty offended for you pointing that gun at me." I faked hurt, clutching my chest. "That was really rude of you."
He was silent for a moment. A knowing smirk was plastered on his face and he stared at me until I couldn't help but release a laugh.
"I know, I know. I'm just kidding." I smiled, gazing up at him while pushing my hair behind my ears. "You pointing a gun to my head isn't offending; I could think of a few more things for you to do that would be considered offensive."
"Yeah I know. But really," Carl went on genuinely. " I'm sorry about it though. That was a heck of a meeting, holding you and gunpoint and tying you up. I just had to be cautious about a group and-"
I cut him off with a wave of my hand. "You were protecting your family." I smiled gently, emotions arising stealthily in my eyes that I wished to push down. "I'd do the same if I were in your place. I'd do anything to protect my family."
