Chapter 12 --

"Ryo-chan, do you want to join us for lunch?" Kikumaru asked, holding his bento up.

"Sure -- " she stopped when she saw Fuji come up behind Kikumaru and turned her head away, glancing outside. "Actually, um, today I was gonna eat with Midget so I'll see you later."

She turned and walked away, flexing her fingers nervously.

Kikumaru tilted his head with a confused expression on his face. "Eh? Why'd Ryo-chan run away? Is she avoiding me?"

Fuji shook his head, a frown on his lips. "No... she's avoiding me."

"Huhh? What do you mean?" Kikumaru questioned.

~

Ryoka paced around the small toilet stall, fiddling with her fingers nervously.

I can't just keep on avoiding him!

Actually you can.

But if I do, he might confront me and it'll be weirder! Like those shoujo animes!

Those stuff doesn't happen in real life!

It might!

If you don't wanna avoid him then just talk to him normally and pretend nothing happened! Pretend it's a challenge! You never back down from a challenge!

Huh?! I can't do that! I'll probably keep on blushing when I'm talking to him! And Eiji might notice something as well!

ARGH!!

Ryoka punched the wall, making some of the girls outside squeal loudly and run out.

She bit her tongue to stop herself from yelping.

Why'd I punch that?!

Ryoka grumbled, slamming the toilet door open.

"Time to face the challenge," she whispered to herself.

~

"Ello, Eiji, Fuji," Ryoka chirped, sitting down on her seat as the bell rang.

Kikumaru leaned over Fuji's table and smirked. "Ryo-chan, why didn't you want to sit with us just now? We saw Ryoma practicing during lunch. So where'd you go?"

Ryoka coughed, averting her eyes. "Eiji, do you really want to know?"

"Yup! Tell me!"

Ryoka looked him in the eye with a serious expression, "Are you really really sure?"

Kikumaru nodded vigorously while Fuji just glanced at her expectantly.

"This is probably gonna get really weird if I tell you guys."

"Ryo-chan, just say it!"

"I'm on my period and I had to change my pad," Ryoka blurted out.

Kikumaru's jaw hung open while Fuji just looked shocked.

"I told you. It just got really weird," Ryoka said with a nonchalant shrug.

"Y-You're having that thing again?" Kikumaru questioned, hiding behind Fuji. "I-Is this y-your first day?"

"Nope, it should be my last day today," she said and Eiji let out a loud sigh of relief. Ryoka raised an eyebrow. "Why do you seem relieved?"

Kikumaru looked away, whistling nervously.

Ryoka's face fell and she groaned.

"Did I do something weird again?"

Kikumaru laughed nervously.

"Eiji..."

"N-Nothing at all!"

Ryoka narrowed her eyes, glaring at him. "Are you sure?"

"Yes, yes."

"Okay then..."

Ryoka turned away, taking out her textbooks.

Kikumaru looked at Fuji, his eyes screaming in fear. Fuji chuckled and both of them momentarily forgot about the incident with Ryoka.

~

"Hey, Eiji, I think I left my reference book under my table," Ryoka muttered, emptying her bag in the middle of the hallway. With a loud groan, she stuffed everything back in her bag. "Yup. I did leave it. Go on without me, I'll see you in the courts."

"Don't be late, Ryo-chan!" Kikumaru said before he walked away.

Ryoka jogged back to her classroom, afraid of being alone in the school.

On the way there, she saw Fuji walking towards her. She slowed her pace and stopped when Fuji raised a reference book.

"Ryoka, is this yours?" He asked, standing in front of her.

"Ah, yes," Ryoka said, lifting her hand to grab it from him.

However, Fuji pulled it back.

"Ryoka, yesterday I -- "

"No, it's fine!" Ryoka shrieked, her voice going an octave higher. "I mean. It's all a misunderstanding. You were probably half asleep and I was kinda day dreaming so we're cool now. Right?" Ryoka blabbed, trying not to let her blush show.

Fuji stared at her. He thought there was a chance that Ryoka might have felt the same way towards him as he did to her. He even planned to tell her now, but he got rejected before he even confessed.

"Right..."

"OK good! I'll take my book and go," Ryoka squealed, snatching her book and running away from him.

Fuji stayed there, staring as her figure disappeared into the hallway.
