Chapter 18 --
"Ryoka!! Wake up you sleazy girl! There's someone at the door!"
Ryoka grumbled under her breath about her damp hair which she stuffed into a bright yellow and purple beanie. With her forgetful memory and yesterday's events, she forgot to buy another hair dye. And Rinko refused to buy it for her, being just as stubborn as her daughter.
Pulling her skirt lower, Ryoka grabbed her bag and ran downstairs. As usual, Ryoma had already left by the time she finished her morning run.
Ryoka raised an eyebrow when she saw Rinko smiling widely while talking to someone outside the door. She couldn't see the person's face so she ignored it and headed to the kitchen first to grab a box of blueberries. Hey, she was trying to live a healthy life.
"Ryoka mou!"
"Gah!" Ryoka shrieked when she saw Atobe grinning his bright fake-ass grin at Rinko.
Ryoka stuffed a handful of blueberries in her mouth before she gave Rinko a quick peck on the cheek.
She quickly brushed past Atobe, wanting to be as far from him as possible.
But the sight that greeted her made her feel very conflicted.
There in her front yard was a dozen -maybe three- bouquets of white and pink peonies.
She didn't know whether to gag because damn boy that is going overboard. Or to grin at him and forgive him because he still remembered what her favourite flower was.
Her cheeks as bright as the pink peonies, she walked past the flowers with a heavy heart.
She didn't want to forgive him. Her pride would be damaged. If she forgived him that quickly, who knows, he might do it again.
"Ryoka mou -- "
Ryoka gripped her bag and broke into a sprint, her muscles already warmed up from the 10km run that morning.
At the doorstep of the Echizen household, Atobe Keigo stood with his mouth agape while the mother of his childhood crush patted his back in an attempt to console him.
"My daughter is pretty unreasonable at times," Rinko said with a sympathetic smile. "But I guess boys like you like a good game. So, have fun."

Ryoka wasn't even panting when she reached the school gates, the morning runs of trying to improve her stamina had actually helped.
She gobbled up what was left of the blueberries and she started walking to her class.
"Eiji, you won't believe what happ -- "
Ryoka's eye twitched. She stared in disbelief at the banner that was hanging on one end of the board to the other end with the words Forgive Me? written on it. And her jaw dropped when she saw a bouquet of white peonies as well as a whole blueberry cheesecake on her table.
Ryoka turned to Kikumaru and saw him trying to contain his laughter behind his desk.
"Forgive me?" came a voice from behind her and she swung her bag at him.
Unfortunately -or probably fortunately- Atobe had seen her action coming and he jumped back with a grin.
"I saw that co --"
But he didn't see the leg swinging towards his abdomen.
Atobe made a loud"oomph!" sound before he was sent crashing into the hallway ground.
"Leave me alone!" Ryoka shrieked, slamming the door in his face. Quickly locking it with the key she received from the teacher a month ago, she sprinted to the back door, locking it as well.
Atobe stood by the windows just staring at her.
"Black panties with skulls?"
A grin slowly formed on his adorable -shit, I mean disgusting- face.
Ryoka's hazel eyes widened and she attempted to punch him by he quickly dodged.
Ryoka closed the windows and she heard his faint voice protest outside the classroom.
"Echizen is that your boyfriend?!"
"No, he's not!" Ryoka shrieked, her cheeks heating up. "The day I date him is the day the world ends!"
"He's so tall and handsome!"
"Ew!" Ryoka shouted, shaking her head in disapproval at the girl who was squealing over Atobe's good looks.
"He's from a prestigious school! I recognize his uniform!"
Ryoka felt like pulling her hair out. "That doesn't change the fact that he's stupid and autistic!"
"If Echizen-san doesn't want him anymore, I don't mind taking him!"
"You can have him!" She was so done with her class. The only thing that was stopping her from stomping out of there was the fact that there was a bigger idiot outside.
She walked over to her table where the cake and flowers was. She picked up the tiny fork and dug it into the cake. She stared at him straight in the eye while she took a big bite, pointing the middle finger at him while she chewed.
"Echizen!"
Ryoka quickly put her hand down and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. She stood up and fumbled with the keys, trying to unlock the door as fast as she could.
"Sensei!" Ryoka exclaimed, slamming the door open. "I'm sorry I didn't know you were there!"
Her homeroom teacher walked inside the classroom, stopping to take a look at the mess. Behind her, Fuji sneaked in.
Her homeroom teacher scowled, more wrinkles forming on her saggy face. To say she was old was an understatement. She was practically ancient but she just won't stop moving and screaming. She was as cranky as squidward, maybe even more.
And, Ryoka was probably her favourite student.
"Detention for you!"
Or not.
Ryoka heard a familiar snort and she whipped around to glare at Kikumaru.
She peered through the window, checking whether Atobe was there. Not surprisingly, he was gone. Probably fled as soon as he saw the teacher.
"Go back to your seat."
"Hai," Ryoka muttered, trudging back to her seat.
She put the bouquet of flowers beside her desk and stacked her books up in front of the blueberry cake. She sighed and dug the fork inside.
"Ryoka, you'll be missing practice later?" Fuji asked, coming too late to see the whole thing.
"Unfortunately," she said in irritation. I'm gonna punch Atobe so badly!
