Chapter 17 -- Fuji
"He ended up eating his own shit," Ryoka cried out, still laughing even as they walked out of the bowling alley. She held onto Fuji's shoulder for support while he did the same, still feeling woozy from Inui's creation.
Inui scowled, still feeling a little off after having to drink his own vile concoction.
Her laughter subsided when Ryuuzaki-sensei stopped and stood in front of them, about to say something to the whole team.
"Next week will be the second round of the Kantou Tournament. Our opponents will also be top ranked veterans," Sue announced, not minding the curious stares of some passerbys. "First up is Saitama's Midoriyama Jr. High. And then Chiba's Kogou Rokkaku Jr. High. If we can't beat these two teams, we won't be able to face Rikkaidai Jr. High in the finals!"
Ryoka nodded. As the unofficial team manager, she had already done her research. Midoriyama Jr. High wasn't going to be a problem. She visited their school and watched their practice. They seemed easy enough to beat. But with Rokkaku, it might be a little troublesome.
Spaced out on her own, she didn't hear what Ryuuzaki-sensei said only hearing the surprised gasps of the boys.
"Huh?" She asked, as they all were uncharacteristically silent. "What happened?"
"Tch," Ryoma muttered, the only one speaking up. "Weren't you listening? Captain Tezuka is leaving."
Ryoka took a minute to process her younger brother's words.
"Oh. That."
She saw it coming. He needed time to heal his arm.
She turned to face Tezuka, giving him a lopsided smile. "Well, I hope you don't get too lonely there."
Tezuka nodded, still having his same expressionless face.
~
"I'm gonna miss Tezu," Ryoka muttered for the sixth time that day.
Everybody at the table sighed.
Forking her food dejectedly, Ryoka pouted.
In an attempt to comfort his best friend, Kikimaru rubbed Ryoka's head affectionately.
However, her beanie fell off and all the boys at the table -except for Ryoma- gasped.
"Eiji!" Ryoka shouted, trying to stuff her long hair back inside the beanie. Too late, all of them saw already.
"What's with your hair?!"
"You dyed your hair brown?!"
"She looks like a foreigner."
"So this was why you were hiding your hair!"
"Ryoma did you know about this?!" Momoshiro screamed, shaking Ryoma who was sleeping.
Ryoma groaned and looked at Ryoka before pulling his cap back down. "Obviously. I live with her."
"What?!"
Ryoka scowled, finally getting her hair back in the beanie. "See! This was why I didn't want anyone to see my hair."
Kikumaru took the beanie from her head and her long brown hair cascaded down her shoulders.
Ryoka elbowed in the stomach and snatched her beanie but didn't bother to hide her hair anymore.
"Wait. No, I did not dye my hair brown. It's natural, unfortunately," she added with a hiss. "And yes, I am know I look like a foreigner but I'm as Echizen I can get."
"Is that why you dyed you hair?" Fuji questioned.
Ryoka nodded and said, "Well, I'm in Japan now. Gotta look Japanese if you don't want to attract much attention."
"I think you still look beautiful either way."
Ryoka's eyes burned holes into Fuji's head before she whipped her head away.
"E-Enough about my hair, how bout food?! Food is great! Let's eat food!"
Kikumaru watched as Ryoka buried her head in the menu even though they had already ordered. But this time, she was desperately trying to hide her scarlet cheeks.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh~
Kikumaru glanced at the other side of the table to Fuji who was staring at Ryoka behind the menu.
Finally! A reaction!
~
Hey! Maybe Fuji is just being a nice friend and complimenting you as a friend.
Haha! Of course! NOT! I may be dense but not that dense! Even an idiot can tell that's flirting!
Maybe you're thinking too much?
UGH!
Ryoma glanced at his sister who stared intensely at her melting vanilla ice cream cake. But Ryoma had seen that constipated gaze many times.
She's overthinking again, Ryoma thought, sitting up properly. I'm guessing it's because of what Fuji-senpai said.
Ryoma had to admit he was pretty pissed when Fuji shamelessly flirted with his older sister. Even though he was younger, he couldn't help but be overprotective towards her. He didn't like his only sister spending less time with him because of her boyfriend. He secretly liked the attention from her too, he liked being her younger brother.
Fuji-senpai huh. Maybe in a few years.
"Stop scowling, you look constipated," Ryoma sneered, snapping Ryoka out of her deep thoughts.
Ryoka growled. "Well I'm sorry, little brother," she hissed. "I was born with this face if you haven't noticed."
"Believe me, I've noticed."
