"But the changing of winds
And the way water flows
Life is short as the falling of snow
And now I'm gonna miss you
I know.."

Matthew lost it. He let the tears fall at the memory he would keep in his heart forever. He wiped some of them off his cheek with his sleeve and looked up at the sky, and in a crackly voice he said,

"I promise, Gilbert. I will love you forever."

Matthew then recalled what happened afterwards. The moment that ruined his life:

"Do you hear that?"

"Hear what?"

"There's something over there."
Matthew pointed to the nearby forest.

"You're just imaging things."

Snap.

Gilbert jumped up. He heard it too.

"You see?"

"It's just an anim-"

He did not finish his sentence. There was a loud bang that cut him off.

Matthew flinched at the loud noise and tried to hide himself in the grass even though he knew he could be easily spotted. He heard screaming, running, and at that moment he felt two arms pick him up. It was Gilbert. Matthew looked around frantically to see where the noise was coming but found nothing. He put his arms around Gilbert's neck to prevent him from falling. He had always loved being carried by his boyfriend, but this time, it terrified him. Not long after being carried, he was dropped at the entrance.

"Go." Gilbert spoke sternly.

Matthew was shocked by Gilbert's words. "What are you going to do?"

"I'm going. I'm going to get him. I don't want anybody to get hurt. Go, I'll meet you outside when I'm finished."

Matthew yelled at Gilbert, hoping he would be heard.

He saw what was happening.

"Gilbert! Don't do this please, I need you!" He said with a few tears streaming down his cheeks. "Gilbert!"

At that moment, he felt his world rip to shreds. At that moment, he felt true anxiety and dread, and at that moment when he heard those two loud gunshots fire, he knew Gilbert was a liar. He did not meet him outside. It was over.

That was it.

Matthew was snapped back to reality. He was at his boyfriend's grave. He kneeled besides it and looked down at the writing on it.
