Alexander's POV

My heart stopped beating for a second and I felt my lungs contract.

"Maria"

She looked frail, weak, different from the last time I saw her. Her skin was even paler than before and her electric blue eyes definitely got bigger.

I stared at her in shock as she took a step forward, her baby blue thigh length dress ruffling as she did so.

"What're you doing here Ria?"

She swallowed nervously and scratched her arm "i-i just really needed to see you, Xandy"

I shut my eyes and I felt a searing pain in my chest.

It looks like the mental clinic took a huge toll on her. She's not herself anymore.

I stuffed my hands into my pockets as she took another step forward

"I came back to say I'm sorry and I would really like us to be friends again"

My gaze snapped back to hers in shock "you want to be friends?"

She nodded, dropping her gaze to the ground "I still love you, Xandy, but I understand that you don't —will never love me back and I've come to accept that fact, I'm......okay with it. But I just don't want this to further jeopardise our friendship so-" she took one more step forward and outstretched her hand "friends?"

I stared at her intently, trying to gauge whether or not she was lying to me. I Shifted my gaze to her hand which was now shaking nervously and I sighed.

"Friends" I agreed, shaking her hand.

Her eyes filled with tears and she hiccuped back a sob "t-thank y-you s-so much" without warning, she enveloped me in a hug.

I stilled for a moment wondering if I should hug her back. Then a loud sob was heard and I immediately wrapped my arms around her, awkwardly patting her back

I hate it when she cries

She pulled away, sniffling and wiping her tears "I'll j-just be on my way"

I just stared wordlessly at her as she turned around and walked back into the elevator.

I exhaled once the doors closed and leaned against the wall.
