Chapter 3:
Hunter's story is shocking if I do say so myself. Hunter grew up in a bad home. His dad left when Hunter was probably only 3. His mom went crazy and started blaming Hunter for all her problems. Poor Hunter could only take so much. Hunter was sent to the hospital several times after his mother abused him. Peter found Hunter at the hospital, and felt bad for him. Peter offered to take Hunter to a better place, where now one could hurt him and he would feel much better. Hunter didn't want to leave his mom. Hunter still loved his mom no matter what she did. Peter visited Hunter every night at the hospital. One night while Peter was there, he witnessed Hunter's mother and her anger. Peter watched in horror unable to do anything. After his mom left, Peter gave Hunter no option but to come with him.
I let the tears flow down my cheeks. Hunter was strong and he vowed to never let anyone hurt his family. Peter and the other boys and me, we were his family. I scrubbed Hunter's clothes, and hung them in a tree to dry. Hunter never let his anger get the best of him, he knew it could hurt people. He learn first hand that too much anger can hurt the ones you love. I walked back over to the bank and grabbed Jacob's clothes.
Jacob now that kid he was a pain. Jacob was raised in an orphanage. No, Jacob was not the one to sit on the window and sing to the other kids. No, that was not my Jacob. My Jacob was the one who played mean tricks on the other kids and would always be in trouble. Jacob was a troublemaker, but at school, Jacob was constantly teased and made fun of. Jacob was always "The Kid whose Parents didn't love him," "The one who didn't have a real home," "The one that no one liked not even his parents." Jacob spent most of his time crying at school. Jacob believed all of those mean things that were said about him.
Jacob didn't realise that his parents died on their way to pick him up from daycare. They were so excited to see their baby boy. No one told Jacob these things. Hunter was the one who actually found Jacob. Jacob was crying at school one day and Hunter stopped to make sure he was ok. Hunter and Jacob became best friends, and Peter knew this. Peter offered to take Jacob and Jacob was hesitant at first. Hunter told Jacob what Peter had told him. "This is a place where no one can hurt you and you will feel better." A common phrase said among the boys.
I let out a breathy laugh, my eyes still holding tears from remembering Hunter's story. I picked up Jacob's clothes and threw them into the tree next to Hunter's. I let out a sigh and went back to my basket and pulled out Sam's clothes. I dipped them into the water and pulled them out. I started scrubbing the clothes to get his multiple stains out.
Sam doesn't have a long sad story, nor is it a short happy story. Well, I guess it's kind of happy I mean he ended out here with us. Sam was never liked by his family, they all blamed him for their mother' death. His oldest brother and sister got mad at him one day and put him on a train saying that their dad wanted them to. Peter found Sam and Sam was fascinated with Peter. Sam told Peter his story, and Peter gently explained that Sam had been on this train for two days, and that He needed to come with him to a place where no one would hurt him and he would feel better.
I hung Sam's clothes up in the tree and sighed, "This is going to take forever if I remember every little boy's life." I thought out loud, and then laughed at myself. I always do this: remember the life of my boys and cry and laugh along with the stories. I slowly walk back over to the basket and grab Christopher's clothes.
My sweet little Christopher. Christopher was such a sweet little boy, he made friends with anyone who talked to him, well mostly everyone. Christopher was in foster care, his mother and father didn't want a "Retarded" son. I always let out a little sob at that. You see back in England where Christopher was born and raised he had Dyspraxia, where as here in NeverLand he doesn't have that and it continues to make me smile. Dyspraxia affects a person's movements, coordination, judgement, processing, and their memory.
His parents couldn't handle it and gave up on him. Christopher like any child with disabilities was made fun of nonstop and Christopher didn't know how to respond and sometimes he would just go home and cry, he was a five year old stuck in a body that didn't act as he does. Hunter and Sam found Christopher being harassed at the park, because he couldn't go and play like the other children. Hunter and Sam told Christopher he needed to come with them to a place where no one could hurt him and he would feel and BE better.
I was balling by the time I got finished with Christopher's clothes. I walked to the tree across from where the other clothes are hanging and hung his up. I stopped and sniffed really loud and unlady like. I tried to calm myself down but I knew what was coming next the twins. I took a couple of deep breathes and braced myself for the full melt down.
The twins were originally from some place in America called New York. Their mom and dad were rich people who only cared about themselves. They were married for the publicity and had the twins for the publicity. These people were not parents, they were far from that to be honest. They were monsters, they didn't care of the children at all nor did they care. Both Colby and Zane were starved to the brink of death. They were not cared for and properly looked after. Peter was flying by when he saw Zane trying to climb out the window, and Colby not far behind. Peter quickly grabbed the two and took them to NeverLand. It took their parents a total of two weeks before noticing their children were missing. And why did they realize their children were missing. They were going to appear on television as the "Big Happy Family."
