Chapter 2
Peter has been gone for about a week. The boys and I been managing just fine. I sighed and sat down heavily in the rocking chair. 'I miss him terribly' I thought to myself. The lost boys were running around playing tag just outside the house, Cole was taking a nap in front of me, and Peter. Peter was off somewhere having an adventure with that 5'3" walking Barbie doll. I grunted and folded my arms across my chest. The oldest Lost boy, Hunter, came inside looking a little guilty. I sigh and stood up. "Hunter dear, what on earth did you do this time?" I asked walking over to him. I kneeled in front of him so we could be roughly the same height.
"I might have accidently hit Colby." I sighed, and stood up. I don't know how I do this day after day, but some how I manage. Taking care of the boys proved to be tough.
Oh, you probably don't know their names, Disney and other companies never thought they needed a name, but trust me my boys deserve names. Hunter (9), Jacob, (8), Sam (7), Christopher (5), Colby and Zane (4), and then my baby Cole who you already know is 2 ½.. These boys are my world, and their stories are positively amazing, and not at all what those stupid movies try to tell you.
I reached a crying Colby and picked him up. "Its ok baby, I'm here." I cooed stroking his head. Colby cried harder into my shirt as I swayed back and forth trying to calm him down. Colby started to calm down and I set him down.
"Hunter do you have something to say to Colby?" I asked turning to Hunter who looked guilty. Hunter ran over and hugged Colby and sobbed his apology. Yes, my boys are such big softies when it comes to either me or the other boys. They play rough with Peter and each other, but as soon as someone gets hurt and the tears come out. They are so guilty and act so sweet and caring. They hugged for about five minutes and then went back to playing.
I sat on the front steps and watch as they played together. Something rustled in the bushes and the boys stopped. They all looked at me and ran towards me shoving me into the house. I was confused as I watched them grab their hunting tools and walk slowly towards the noise. The door was quickly shut, and I realised my boys were protecting me and Cole. I smiled to myself, and looked over at the sleeping Cole. "You will never know how much they love you." I said caressing Cole's sleeping face.
"Let me go." I heard from outside the door. I laughed when I realised it was Peter, he must have been the noise we heard. The door opened and Peter came in dragging the boys behind him. Literally dragging, the boys all grabbed onto Peter's leg and were being dragged behind him.
"Welcome home Peter, we missed you." I laughed. Peter smiled at me and looked down at the boys who were struggling to get up off the floor.
"Come on boys, I brought back presents." Peter said and the boys yelled "yay." Cole was woken up by the sudden noise and started to cry. I walked over and picked him up. I cuddled him close to me as he calmed down and fell back asleep. I didn't want to put him down incase he woke up again. I sat down in the rocking chair, rocking slowly with Cole still in my arms. Peter sat ont he floor with the boys surrounding him.
I watched as Peter handed each boy their present from his adventure. Hunter got a new knife carved from some sort of bone that I would rather not identify. Jacob got a new bow and arrow sheath. Sam got a thigh sheath for his multiple knives. Christopher got a new pair of shoes. Colby and Zane got a new outfit. Lastly, my little Cole got a little stuffed rabbit.
I smiled at my little family and sighed. I stood up and took the stuffed rabbit and placed Cole in his crib and set the rabbit down next to him. I watched for a minute as Cole snuggled into the rabbit and giving off a light snore. I smiled and turned back to the boys, who were all playing with their gifts.
"Ok boys, you know what day it is?" I asked and smiled at the little boys. They all smiled at me and ran into their rooms and changed into a clean outfit. They handed me all their dirty clothes and I put them into my little basket and headed down to the river to wash their clothes. I sat on the bank and pulled out Hunter's clothes.
