Chapter 7:
"I see Peter cannot save you now" The man said as he walked closer to me. I gulped, as the reached his hand out to touch my face. I flinched away and was about to let out a scream when I heard a little boy cry out. I turned my head to face Sam, he was frozen with fear.
"Sam, please go back to Peter. I will be just fine, ok?" I said trying to keep my voice calm. Sam's lip started quivering and it broke my heart. Sam knew who this man was, and what he was capable of.
"Mommy... Don't let hook take you, I need you." Sam said as he broke down in sobs. I took a deep breath as Hook looked between us.
"Sam, listen to me. Go back to Peter. I will be back soon. I love you remember that." I said slowly hoping my wavering voice was not as noticeable to the small child. Sam seemed to not notice as he slowly nodded his head and ran of.
"Well, wasn't that touching... mom!" Hook smirked at me. I looked down at my feet and let a few silent tears fall. Hook jerked my face back up, I had no choice but to see the evil glint in his eyes. "Well, Darling, since you alerted Peter, we must get you away faster than I had originally wanted." Hook said rubbing his chin and tapping his hook against his leg. I sighed.
"As long as you don't hurt any of the boys or Peter I will willingly go with you, and won't make a sound." I said my voice cracking silently. Hook looked at me like he thought I was joking, after a few minutes he grabbed my hand and started dragging me towards the part of the river that meet the NeverLand Sea. Hook shoved me on board. I stepped on careful not to lose my balance.
"Wynne! Wendy!" I heard Peter shout from somewhere on the shoreline, he was probably searching for me. I looked over my shoulder to see Peter come into view as he started screaming frantically at me. I looked down at my hands that rest on the bow of the ship. I let more tears fall and land on my hand as I look back up to where Peter is. He was now running and I could make out the boys following behind him.
"I love you Peter." I whispered as I turned around to face Hook. I thought I saw sympathy in Hooks eyes, but it was gone before I could be sure, I shook my head. Why would Hook feel sympathetic, he was the one that took me in the first place. Hook grabbed my arm, but I did notice it was gentler than when he first dragged me on the ship.
"Wendy, we are going to have a talk in my office." Hook said, I nodded my head and followed him into his office. Hook sat on the desk and motioned for me to sit in the bean bag chair in front of the desk. I slowly moved further into the room and sat down on the bean bag chair. "Wendy, do you know why Peter and I don't get along?" Hook asked looking down at something on his desk, and then looking back up at me. I shook my head, and remained quiet too afraid to speak. "Well, the mates on the ship believe its the hand, but to be honest, I don't really care, I mean Hello! How cool is this? I have a hook for a hand!" Hook laughed, and I laughed too, I don't think anyone has seen this side of Hook.
"I am going to be honest with you Wendy, or do you go by Wynne now?" Hook said and paused waiting for my answer.
"I don't care either way." I said smiling a little. This Hook isn't really a bad guy, I would totally be ok hanging out with this Hook.
"I am jealous of Peter, that is the only reason that I try to take things from Peter, pure jealousy." Hook said looking down at his hand that was rubbing his hook. "Peter gets to fly, he has six boys..."
"seven." I interrupt quietly. Hook looked at me and smiled.
"Excuse me seven boys that worship him, and I can't help but be jealous."
"Hook, what made you tell me all of this? Is this why you kidnapped me? To tell me the story behind you and Peter?" I asked.
"No, no it wasn't. I was going to kidnap you, torcher you for a few days and then let Peter know where you are and he can come fight to find you." Hook said looking and sounding guilty.
"What made you change your mind."
"To answer that I have to tell you another story are you up for it? Or have I bored you already?" We both laughed and I motioned with my hand for him to continue.
"I became a pirate because someone offered to pay me, and I can tell you I wish every day that I didn't take that opportunity. I had a girl back home, Katherine, who you remind me a lot of. She was beautiful and very caring. She would watch all the town's children who were too young to go to primary school. She always made me laugh, she grew a garden in her backyard. I moved into the house next to her when we were about 19. She came over with homemade bread as a welcome present. We clicked together, and the entire town would ask us when the wedding was. One day when we were walking around the town some guy came up to me and told me he had important news. I told Katherine that I would be back. The man offered me several hundred dollars if I would join his pirate ship. I didn't think twice I took the money and went back to Katherine. That night I gave her the money and told her that I loved her but I needed to do this." Hook said, I could hear the tears forming, his voice was cracking and he truly meant what he was saying to me. "When I got on the ship I turned around and saw Katherine running towards me. She was screaming my name and I ignored her I was doing this so she could have a better future she deserved better than me. When the ship was leaving I heard her scream one last thing that has always made me regret my decision."
"What did she say?" I asked quietly. Hook looked up at me and I saw the tears flowing down his cheek. I didn't know how to react, I grabbed the handkerchief from the desk next to hook and handed it to him. Hook wiped his eyes and blew his nose before looking at me.
"She said 'I love you James, don't forget it.'" Hook said quietly looking back down. Suddenly everything made more sense, Hook was feeling sympathy, he must have known how I felt and was picturing the scene between him and Katherine again.
"I'm so sorry Hook." I said giving him a hug.
"Call me James." Hook said lightly. I hugged Hook tighter. We were like that for only a few minutes, but we jumped apart from each other the second the door to the office was violently flung open.
