"i understand i'm supposed to be on a new medication, but what is this?" sojin looked back and forth from the doctor to the boy in the room.

"we're testing a new therapy," the doctor stated as if sojin knew already.

"okay, but why?"

"we're going to put you on a new therapy. consider yourself a trial patient,"

sojin blinked as the doctor smiled at her. she wanted to wipe the smile off his face; she hated— disliked— his smile. then again, which doctor did she like?

"about the therapy," doctor kim cleared his throat. "this boy is here to cheer you up and keep you from hurting yourself. he's been tested on several other patients, and they have gotten better, so we're going to try the same on you,"

"i guess," sojin whispered.

"his name is kino," the doctor said. "you will spend most of your time with him, and you will be kept in this hospital until you recover under his guidance. okay?"

sojin didn't know what to say. she definitely did not want to say okay, but she didn't want to talk as well. she just looked at the two with a blank expression, the doctor turning to kino. he patted him on the shoulder and said, "do your job, kid,"

the kid— kino— saluted, earning a chuckle from the doctor. he left the room, sojin sitting down on the bed as kino approached her.

"hi," he held out his hand. "nice to meet you, sojin. my name is kino,"

"i've heard," sojin said as she shook his hand.

"i know depression isn't easy," he started. "honestly, i shouldn't even be here. you should be on medications. i feel like i can only help sick kids with physical diseases,"

"thank you!" someone finally understood sojin. "i should be on medications, which i am, but you being here won't exactly help. no offense,"

"none taken," kino smiled. "i do know, however, you should talk about your feelings, which i am here for,"

"huh?"

"you can't convey your true feelings to adults because they blow things out of proportion," kino took a seat on the bed next to sojin. "they do so many extra things, it ends up ruining you further,"

"exactly," sojin sighed.

"if you talk to someone your own age, however, it'll be easier to feel a little better. maybe your depression got triggered because of people, maybe because of family, or maybe because you simply don't understand yourself," kino looked up at the ceiling. "talking just helps, you feel?"

sojin looked at kino, then looked up at the ceiling as well. kino was right, and she was amazed. she was amazed because for the first time since she was diagnosed, someone finally understood.
