my best friend's name was Romaisae but i called her Romie. We were six when we first met,she was new so i made it my life goal to get to know her, my mom always said i will grow up to be a social butterfly, but this isn't about me, it's about her. i moved to tangier when i was five,so i knew what it felt to be new, everybody already claimed their new best friend, that they will probably ditch sooner or later.
She walked in with her mom, looking very scared and nervous, that's when i knew i wanted to be her friend, kids were outgoing, relaxed, and fearless because they were too young to know anything, too young for the world, but she looked like she's been there, figured it out, she looked mature for her age, it was a breath of fresh air, refreshing too see somebody who wasn't hyper and had the power to turn all your so called friends on you.
For two weeks, she sat alone talking to nobody, never raising her hand, you would except her to get lonely, bored and sad but no she was okay, neutral.
It took me three weeks, to gather up enough courage and go talk to her, i had friends but i didn't like them, we just grew up together, i was a kid, why would i need to gather up any courage, we were careless, but yet i cared, i cared about losing my friends, because if i go to her they would all turn on me,but i was unhappy with them, bored of playing princesses and always being the maid in a sleepover does that you, they never really liked me and the feeling was mutual.
The weird thing about her is that she was the teachers' favorite students even though she never raised her hand, never did participate, nothing. She was quiet, maybe that's why .
We were complete opposites, she was quiet, shy and too adorable, i was loud, outgoing and really annoying.
We soon became friends, after the typical introduction conversation, we claimed the swing set as ours since it only had two, she never talked in class, and that was the only time we could actually talk.
She would talk about the sky a lot, everything that was related to the sky, everyday was a new topic, i would look forwad to hearing her talk, she would rant non-stop about aliens, stars, planets, clouds. She didn't talk too much but when she did you couldn't help but listen, that's how fascinating she was.
Four months later to be exact, we became best friends or at least i considered her as my best friend, she never failed to suprise me, she was never boring, everyday was new literally, everyday got better.
Our first sleep over was in her house since she didn't have any sibiling, her mother didn't mind two kids running around, on the contrary she loved the noise, she said it made her feel less alone,i never understood what that meant, it was strange how Romie's mother love the commotion, and Romie loved the quiet.
We didn't play dress up nor princesses, the first time in my short life i wasn't a maid, instead we fixed puzzles, build a fort and watched harry potter all night
That was the most fun i've ever had and i would do anything to do it again.
