By the time we made it to fourth grade, everybody knew we were inseparable even teachers knew that, that's how real we were, everyday we would sit next to each other, it made school more tolerable and endurable.
When i said we were polar opposites i wasn't exaggerating, she was good at maths, i was horrible at it, well horrible was an understatement, but i was good at writing which made it easy for me to score good grades in Arabic and French to cover up my math grade that represents half of my grade, she sucked at writing, but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing cause we helped each other which resulted in decent grades in our bad subjects.
One thing we agreed on was that P.E sucked, espesially when everybody in your class dislikes you and choses not to pick you on their team, well that until the teaches intervins.
My old friends weren't my biggest fan, same for Romie because apparently i ditched them for the quiet freak and she took me away from them, which wasn't completely wrong, but i was sick of being the maid and the back up choice, maybe growing a back bone wasn't such a good idea, from the way they were glaring at me and Romie, dodgeball wasn't gonna be dodgeball, it was going to turn into a reunion gone horribly wrong, that until Romie saved our butts by telling the teacher that we can play tennis together,my love for her grew even more if possible.
Layla was the ruler of our grade and also the leader of my old friends who followed her like lost puppies, so much authority for a fourth grader, she made it her mission to ruin Romie's life for taking her best friend a.k.a me, i was never her best friend, but Layla didn't like it when people took her things.
Every P.E session was hell on earth for Romie, also me because i couldn't bare seing her get hurt yet i never did anything, such a cowardly move of me, we were best friends, we were suppose to protect each other.
It went on for about two weeks till i snapped, i knew what i had to do even if it meant torture for the rest of my elementary school years, she did so much for me, it was time for me to do the same.
We were playing dodgeball again, no matter how much i prayed that we wouldn't, we still did unfortuanely.
It was me, Romie and some other girls vs Layla and her squad ; fifteen minutes later, my team was all out it was safe to say they sucked, hard, it was me and Romie against Layla and three other girls, it was getting personal.
We dodged every ball they threw, barely and got Layla's friends out, i was expecting her to throw the ball at me but instead she aimed at Romie, i didn't feel it before i ran to the ball, catched it and threw it at Layla, i didn't realise that it hit her in the face until i noticed that everybody was quiet even the teacher, all i was hearing was my heavy breathing and everybody's whispers about how screwed i was but looking back at Romie and seing her face light up and her holding in her laughter made everything worth it.
It's dodge ball you are meant to get hit.
