JORDAN
Everything was still as I laid restless in my bed. My eyes were glued to the ceiling fan, but my mind on other things. Jessica was sound asleep in the guest bedroom, while Jason's on the front porch. He's been sitting there all night out in the cold.
I refuse to let him inside. Not because I don't want him near me, but because I'm afraid I'll give in. I still haven't agreed to going with him.
If I give in, I'll have to spend the rest of my life running, as well as putting a baby in danger. But if I stay, I'll be able to raise this child in peace, however, I'll probably never see Jason again.
I just wish things didn't have to be so complicated.
Slowly, my eyes began to get heavy and my thoughts jumbled up until I didn't care anymore. When the sun rose, I got out of bed and made my way to the kitchen.
I grabbed two cups of coffee and opened up the front door. Jason sat on the porch swing, swinging back and forth with tired eyes. With a sigh, I sat next to him and handed him a mug.
Jason replied with a soft smile, one that made my heart beat faster. He didn't take a drink like I expected.
I looked out into the street to see the sun just rising between a few houses in the neighborhood. The sky was mixed with reds, pinks, oranges, and dark blues.
"This is my favorite time of the day." I said, to break the silence.Jason didn't say a word. When I looked over at him, he looked straight into my eyes. Every detail of his eyes were visible in the sunlight.
"If you choose to stay, I just want you to know that you're the best thing to ever happen to me. I'm sorry for being who I am. For letting you love me, a criminal. You deserve better. You're good." His eyes glazed over, but the glaze quickly faded.
I tried my best not to break down in tears, but I couldn't stop myself. And soon, Jason broke down too, and before I knew it, we were kissing and suddenly the world stood still.
I pulled away and realized that there is no such thing as a perfect life. There's no such thing as a perfect person, a perfect story, or a perfect world. This is Jason McCann. This is the boy I fell in love with. And this is our imperfect story.
"I'll go. As soon as the baby is here, I will go with you." I said.
Jason's face lit up, and more tears fell down my face. He wiped them away with his thumb. "I'll go first. Just to make sure everything is okay, then when the baby is born, you can meet me there."
"But-"
"No. It'll be just a few months without me. If we both go at the same time, it could be dangerous. I promise you we will be together, okay? I have to go pack." Jason got up from the swing.
I watched him walk to his car. He looked back with that same soft smile and continued on.
