I banged the door as hard as I could breathless from the long walk I took to his house. Patrick opened the door after what felt like forever.
“Brittney, what’s going on?” He asked quickly reading my facial expression.
“Patrick it’s ruined, everything is ruined.” I said tears filling my eyes. I walked in the house without an invite.
“I’m guessing telling them didn’t go that well.”
“No, that’s not it. I didn’t even have time tell my dad.” I said shaking my head vigorously. “Shantel, she I don’t even know how, that b**ch how could she?”
“Brittney slow down. You need to explain this, what did Shantel do?”
I was still panting “ Shantel….she….she called my home, I don’t even know how she got my number.”
Patrick poured me a glass of water. “What the hell? What did she say?”
“She told my dad something about me not being the innocent girl that he thought I was. She said that he should question me about the affair with my teacher.”
“Oh my God, this is all my fault.”
I took a drink of water while scratching my head. “What?”
“That night when she left us in the parking lot, I went at her house, I explained to her that you were my student and I—“
“YOU DID WHAT? Patrick how could you?” I interrupted I knew I was being harsh but he deserved it.
“I know I shouldn’t have but Brittney I’ve known her for an entire year I would never in a million years think she would be capable of stooping this low.”
I sighed.
“So what did your dad do, what did you tell him?” Patrick asked breaking the silence.
“I did what I had to, I told him it’s true and I would break it off.”
Patrick’s mouth dropped. “Are you serious? Brittney I cannot loose you, we haven’t even had a decent meal together yet.” He said desperately.
I had to chuckle “Patrick we are dealing with a major dilemma and you’re thinking of food.”
He finally sat next to me. “We can get through this, I was waiting till next week to tell you but I’ve been offered a job at Middleton College to teach college Algebra and I think I’m gonna take the job.”
I looked at him confused “What? That’s great I guess but that doesn’t really help. You literally just told me you don’t want to lose me and now you’re leaving? Like what the f**ck dude.” I felt a head ache coming on.
“No Brit I’m not leaving you, well at least not technically. Middleton is only about a mile from here plus after all this I really think it’s best I leave West Point.”
I sighed massaging my temples I was starting to understand that this probably was for the best. “When do you leave?”
“Next semester, but I think its best I resign as your teacher ASAP, because if this ever gets out before I leave my teaching carrier could be over.”
“Patrick, I am so sorry I never expected this to get so serious so fast, it’s my fault. I was being selfish I never thought of what all this could do to you and now Shantel knows and I don’t even know what she will do or who else she’ll tell.”
“Hey you make it sound like a curse, I’m glad I met you I wouldn’t change that, you’re sweet, beautiful, bold I would never pass all that up.” I smiled at his compliment he was so sweet and I knew he was truly genuine “You don’t have to worry about Shantel she won’t go any further with this.”
