Major Characters: Nebraska, Layton

Nebraska's POV

"What is this tattoo?" I whined, staring at my exposed shoulder. Since I wasn't able to stare at myself in the mirror, I had to really stretch my neck over to see it. I couldn't see the actual outline, but I could tell that there was something there.

If it wasn't for Jason walking in on me naked in the bathroom earlier, I wouldn't have known there was a tattoo there.

"That tattoo is the result of the kiss a few weeks ago. While not expected, I'll still take it again," Layton smirked, taking off his shoes and laying down on the bed. I smiled down at him and pulled the tank top sleeve over my shoulder before laying down on the bed next to him.

Immediately his arms wrapped around my waist. My stomach still hurt from the incident, but not as much as it did before. "Layton, my stomach," I whined, resting my head on his shoulder.

"Shh, don't worry, the doctor said it was fine," he replied, kissing my shoulder. I giggled and looked up at the ceiling.

"Tell me again what the tattoo is in connection to that kiss," I asked quietly.

"Well, you know how we're soulmates right? Basically one of the ways for us to um...well it's kind of hard to explain. I mean, we're already bonded, but to be even more bonded you know? There's nothing more personal and special in a special bond than a kiss. Doing 'it' doesn't count."

"Is that why you were so reluctant to kiss me?" I asked.

"I didn't want to pressure you. If I had kissed you, then that would only make us more bonded to each other and you wouldn't be able to escape me. The tattoo would have really hurt you if you chose someone other that me. As much as that hurt, I wanted to give you a choice. I wanted to make you fall in love with me first," he replied, playing with my hair.

When he said it like that it sounded so...sweet.

"I thought you had to bite me for that to happen," I told him.

I smiled inwardly hearing him groan. "For the last time Nebraska, we aren't the vampires from that one movie...one light? Something? I don't know. I wouldn't bite you or drink your blood, I don't think I can anyways. What would I get out of that?"

"So there's really nothing to gain from biting another vampire?" I questioned.

He shook his head. "Nope, unless you were planning to kill them or something. Enough of that talk, we have to talk to someone about tutoring Jason," he said.

I nodded silently. I was going to ask about me but I didn't want to bring it up. The idea of going back to school brought back so many unwanted memories. School was a place where I hung out with my best friends.

Now both were gone.

I did my best to hold back my tears and followed Layton outside the room and towards Jason's room.

Haley, Lucas, Mom...I miss you.
