“She's gone….she's gone.”
“You have to get rest on your ankle.” Carl argued.“Hell no, if I don't get out of here soon I'll be as mindless as those walkers.” I yanked free from his arms and hastily sat up and stood up with pain coursing through my body, although I was way too stubborn to let Carl figure that out. I began walking - or limping - towards the entrance. His face converted into angry. “Damn it Hannah! Just rest for a little bit; what if your ankle sprains more-”
“I don't care.” I sassed. He sighed and raced up to me and grabbed my hand, causing me to look into his eyes. “I'm trying to protect you, a-and you're making this so difficult.” he whined nervously inches away from my face. “Okay Carl here's the thing,” I paused and made my own sigh, “I'm not used to people giving any shits about me, let alone liking me enough to become a close friend.”
“Just a close friend?” he mumbled but I barely caught it.
“And this isn't easy for me, so just bear with me here.” I said.
“Isn’t easy? This friendship?” he confusingly answered. “If anything, your stubbornness isn't easy to deal with.” he said while frowning at me.
“Oh well.” I smiled and broke the eye contact and his grip on me. When I pushed the door open, I expected wind to gush onto my face and the town of Alexandra to be peacefully working, but instead I saw waves of emotional faces and terror. A girl with her black hair in a low pony tail had the worst look. She was sobbing, face red and eyes staring into oblivion like they just witnessed death. She was being comforted by Maggie who looked almost as lost. “She's gone, Maggie, she's gone.” the crying woman mumbled endlessly. Despite hearing horrified Carl yelling at me to come back to the clinic, my curiosity lead me closer to Maggie and the dark-haired woman. Who's gone?
When I finally came within a couple feet from her, I regretted my decision terribly. I cowered back in shock. “She's dead, Denise is dead! Killed by those men.” the woman whispered.
