First day of my last year in jail. Great.

I woke with a nervous stomach and fear clutching my heart. I've never been the new girl before and really didn't want to. I took a deep breath before getting off of my bed and heading to the bathroom to take a shower.

Once clean and smelling of cherry blossoms, I went through my closet, already full with my packed clothes. I spotted my simple grey t-shirt dress and removed it from its hanger. After styling my hair in a messy braid, I dressed quickly and slipped on my white sneakers. I stood at the mirror and put on a little lip gloss before leaving my room.

My mind wanders to Matthew after the stunt he pulled last night in my room. The way his eyes darkened as they bore into mine were somewhat possessive. A shiver went down my spine remembering the event. To my right, a door swung open almost an inch from my face. My breath stopped as my eyes widened in shock. I peeked into the room to see it was Matthew that opened the door. Instantly, I was pissed.

"What the hell?" I asked angrily. My anger softened slightly when his gaze met mine. His full lips curved into a smile that instantly made butterflies appear in my stomach.

"My bad, Jess. I didn't know you liked peeping around my room," he said with a light chuckle. My face turned crimson red with anger and embarrassment. My mouth opened to say something, but I quickly closed it and walked downstairs. I found my mom sitting at the kitchen table reading a book while Aaron cooked breakfast. She looked up as I walked in.

"Morning, honey," She said smiling. "Why is your face red? Are you feeling alright?"

"Um, I was, uh," I stuttered, unsure of how to answer her question.

"She ran into a door," A voice answered. I turned to see Matthew, his eyes glistening with amusement.

"Well, put some ice on it before you go to school," my mom replied, her voice filled with concern. I rolled my eyes, and grabbed my bag that was sitting on a chair and started towards the door.

"I'm not that fragile, mom," I said to her. I smiled softly and walked out of the house. As I was pulling the door shut, I heard my mom yell out to me.

"Wait, dear, Matthew's taking you to school!"

What?!

I groaned as I opened the door to find Matthew with his usual smirk. I walked up to him slowly.

"Well let's go.  It's my first day and I don't want to be late," I sighed. He rolled his eyes before slipping his arm around my waist.

I squirmed against his touch, trying to get out his grip. "What are you doing?" I hissed at him.

He didn't reply. He grabbed his bag by the door and continued to guide me out the door. Once it closed, he removed his hand and approached his car. I huffed in annoyance and followed him. He started the car and drove off. It was silent and it was bugging me. How can someone enjoy a silent car ride?

"So, any tips for me?" I asked.

Silence. What the fuck is wrong with him?

"Matthew?"

"What?" He replied, rudely.

"Are you going to answer the question?"

Silence.

"Fine," I sighed, and turned my head out of the passenger window. A couple minutes later, we pulled into the student lot. We passed by a lot of people and my heart dropped at the sight of them. How am I going to survive?

"Just stay out of trouble and pretend like you don't know me." I heard Matthew say as he took the keys from the ignition and left the car. I stayed sitting in the car, shocked.
