Daichi POV

I kept on running without a care on what I passed. I got up to a podium. It had a card.

You must use any ninjutsu of your choosing to grab the object above. But if you use anything other than ninjutsu you will be disqualified.

Ok. I looked up to see a scroll tied up to the ceiling with a thin string. One problem. The ceiling was about 80ft tall.

"What can I use? .. Maybe fireball jutsu? I can try it." I mumbled to my self. I quickly preformed the handsigns. "Katon! Fireball no justu!" I yelled. I smirked at first as the fireball had started coming closer to the scroll, but I became paranoid when the fireball was still large and continued to fly towards the scroll.

"No! Katon! Fireball no jutsu!" I yelled. This time I had put a lot more chakra so this one was fast enough to catch up to the first. The fire balls collided causing both to disintegrate into smoke. I let out a small sigh of relief. But soon that relief disappeared. In the small explosion due to the collision of the two flame masses small flames had accidentally made it onto the scroll. I felt sweat accumulate onto my brow and my blood ran cold. My mind started to wonder, and a memory from just before the exams popped up.

I sat at the dinner table. I barley touched my food. Tomorrow was the day we left Konoha and my stomach seemed to reject and form of sustenance.

"Daichi, sweetie, you have to eat, and then you'll be ready to tackle the chunin exams!" My mother smiled and genuine smile. I nodded with a small blush glazing my cheek. I always seemed to feel like I accomplished something when my mother spoke.

"Yeah, klutz don't screw it up!" My elder brother Ichirou laughed. I felt the happiness fade away immediately.

"As long as he passes the exam he will not bring any dishonor to the clan." Keiko, my elder sister answered. I couldn't bare their condescending looks.

" 'Successfully made two clones and passed exam, but seemed to suffer in keeping clones visible, after exam student seemed faint due to over use of chakra.' I mean what type of idiot does it take to almost faint while making two measly clones?" My brother sneered.

"Ichirou! Keiko! Leave your brother alone! He is a fine shinobi!" Mother defended. My gaze fell to my lap, my cheeks now burning in embarrassment. My siblings glared at mother but seemed stop.

"Daichi." A voice that made me shake to my very core with fright suddenly rang. I stiffened in my seat feeling suddenly faint. "Yes sir?" My unsure voice rang almost cracking due to fear. Father had always demanded eye contact from his children, respectively. Looking into his piercing yellow eyes I suddenly felt like some pest.

"I expect you to come back with a promotion, just as your siblings had in the past. You are already behind. If you don't succeed, I will have you taken out of that useless team and you will be trained in the compound exclusively. You have seemed to hit a wall being in that team." As soon as his words left his mouth I knew the threat was all too real.

"Osamu!" My mother protested. My eyes pr-

"Epeat. All exam takers still in the maze have 3 hours left. I repeat-" The voice of the proctor rang through my ears.

I looked back up at the scroll realizing I had dazed off for a few moments. The scroll still burning was only half way charred. My head buzzed as I tried to figure ways to grab the scroll.

Quickly I came to the idea of using a jutsu I was dreading to use. Carefully I made the correct handsigns. "Water pillar jutsu!" I yelled. Water pooled at my feet.

It soon created a whirlpool beneath me carrying me higher and higher into the air. Concentrating on my chakra as I went higher. Only inches away a grin spread across my face.

And then the water gave up from under me.

I felt my stomach plummet and I fell to the ground. I landed weirdly and my head hit the ground, but I couldn't feel the pain. Only dread filled as tears built up in my eyes.

I looked to my hands to only see ashes that had fallen onto my hands.

My hands turned into fists and I screamed. I screamed putting all of my anguish and fear into it. I had failed myself, my comrades, and my family. And I knew because of my earlier stunt I had no more chakra to use.

I balled myself up on the floor clutching my hair ignoring the searing pain on the back of my head. And I just wailed.

Crying for what seemed to be eternity until I heard a a stupid sounding ding. I turned around to see a new doorway had made itself.

"Good job little Konoha ninja! You grabbed the item!" The familiar voice of the childish proctor invaded my ears.

"B-bu b- But - the a-ashes..?" I questioned hiccuping. "Yeah, well the ashes were originally the scroll and you grabbed them so you technically passed. I didn't ring the bell immediately because I wanted to see your reaction in stressful situations. You should work on that. But for now continue your exam." He spoke. I got up staring at the door in wonder. "And jeez kid stop crying it's unsightly." He spoke.

I quickly wiped my tears and zoomed off using my already depleted chakra to finish the rest of the exam in 15 minutes.
