I sighed and stared at the world outside. The world had probably had a much less embarrassing day than I had today.
"Carly, please wake up!?" My grandma shook me awake. I opened my eyes and she wiped tears off her face. "Oh my goodness! I thought something happened to you!"
"Nope, I was just sleeping," I say as I lift my backpack by the strap and drag my foot out of the car. "Thanks for the ride, grandma! See you next week!"
"Oh you're welcome!" She said as she clapped her hands excitedly. "But I'm not going anywhere!"
I stopped in my tracks,"What?"
"Your parents won a trip to Morocco for a week, they weren't going to go, but I forced them to go and have a good vacation." She said still excited. I loved my grandma, but sometimes she was a bit, what's the word? Clingy. She ran over to me, put her arm around my shoulder and told me how great our week together was going to be. My grandpa walked in the house soon after, since he had to go run some errands after he dropped us off. My grandpa wasn't the cause of all this embarrassment. My grandma had always made him participate in the candy-giving at school because she wanted him to be "part of my childhood." Whatever that meant.
I heard a loud noise coming from downstairs.
"Grandma?"
I go downstairs and see the woman who helped raise me lying on the floor surrounded in a pool of blood. She had been shot! My grandpa races downstairs grabs the phone and kneels down by my grandma with me.
"Stay still if you don't want to die." A loud voice boomed. We freeze--no one wanted to look and see who was behind us in fear that we would die.
"Turn around." The voice spoke again. My grandpa turned around first and when he did, he gasped. However, his surprise turned to anger in a matter of a few seconds.
"John! How could you kill my wife?" My grandma yelled.
"You fired me! I lost my house, my money, and my family! I want you to know how this feels!" He screamed.
"And you! Didn't I tell you to turn around?" He was talking to me.
"Turn around!" He said as he fired a shot into the ceiling. I quickly turned around to face him. I had met this man before at my grandpa's office, before he was fired.
"Please let us call 911!?" I blurted out but quickly but soon realized my mistake as John snatched the phone from my grandpa, threw it on the floor, and stomped on it. The phone broke into pieces and I remembered something. My cell phone was with me!
"Um, can I use the restroom?" I asked holding my stomach, pretending I was going to throw up.
"No!" He yelled.
"Please! I really need to go!!!" I scream.
"Arghh! Fine!" He yelled and signaled me to go. I go into the kitchen and into the bathroom. I dial 9-1-1 and then put the phone to my ear. I tell them my emergency and then hang up and pretend to flush the toilet and wash my hands so they really thought I was using the bathroom.
"You done?" John asked angrily.
"Yes." I say and I take my place next to my grandpa.
Just then, I hear sirens and my grandpa looks at me, surprised that I had called the police.
"Put your hands up!" John's hands immediately shot up as hospital workers came inside to take my grandma.
"She's still breathing!" I heard one say which made me feel a little bit more relieved. John was about to get handcuffed by police when he fired his gun. It made the loudest noise and for some reason, I felt the pain. Yes, I had been shot, by someone who had taken me out to ice cream when my dad was away and played with me at the park. I felt betrayed by someone I trusted with everything!
I woke up to a steady beating. I sprung up, remembering what happened. I asked my grandpa next to me, "How's grandma?" He looked up at me with pity in his eyes and I already knew what he was going to say.
"Grandma didn't make it..."He wiped his eyes. "Too much blood loss. She died in her sleep." And with that we both began crying. We were crying so much that I forgot all about my leg. I looked down and my head soon shot up.
"Grandpa??" He nodded his head sadly. "Where's my leg?"
Hi guys, sorry for not writing in a while! I have not written since August 17th, 2016 and it has been a long time considering it is November 18th today! So, I ended this part with a cliffhanger because I wanted this chapter to be more suspenseful and I also wanted to make it a little bit sadder than usual. From now on, there will be a little bit longer chapters, and hopefully I'll write more frequently. Maybe next chapter, I'll write more about her cancer. I haven't written about it for a while! So, see you guys! Vote, comment and follow me!
