"Hey, you!" A voice said from the other end of the hallway. You turned your head in surprise as a girl that couldn't have been a few years older than you ran towards you, a big smile on her face.

"Yeah, you! You're the Shadow King, right? I'm Alice!" She held out her hand, and you shook it hesitatingly.

"Jesus Christ, Alice, stop running around." An annoyed voice said as a man with the same dusty brown hair as the girl ran towards them as well.

"What a hypocrite. This is my twin brother, Alex." Alice said.

"H-Hi. I'm (Y/N)." You replied awkwardly. Alex merely glared at you.

"I don't know what the higher ups are thinking, bringing a someone like her into the Scouting Legion. A criminal is one thing, but the Shadow King is another." Alex said stiffly.

"Secon' mos' wanted person by the Military Police, bu' she's still a beauty, ain't she, Erd?" Another voice said. A tall man with fluffy ginger hair was smiling as he led a small boy with blond hair tied back into a ponytail down the hallway.

"Hey, Rayan!" Alice cheerfully greeted the man. "(Y/N), this is Rayan, the Captain's right hand man! And that's little Erd!"

"I'm not little." Erd immediately responded. "I'm fifteen, I just haven't had a growth spurt yet."

"You keep saying that." Alex replied.

"...What are you all doing, crowding out here?" Levi said, and everyone except for you jumped in surprise. "Rayan, don't you have paper work to do? Alice and Alex, weren't you two supposed to take Erd out for training?"

"Whoops, come on Erd, let's run!" Alice grabbed her brother's hand and Erd's in the other and took off. Rayan slowly inched away and when he was at a safe distance, bolted.

Levi sighed. "They're so noisy."

You smiled. "They're your team, right? They're friendly."

"Too friendly." Levi replied. "You'd think watching their previous squad leader get eaten would make them grow up."

The smile dropped from your face. "Their previous squad leader got eaten?"

"Yeah, a few months ago." Levi casually took your hand in his. "Let's go eat food."

He pulled you, but you didn't budge. "(Y/N)? Something wrong?" He asked. "If it's something that they said, don't mind them, they're-"

"Who ate the former squad leader?" You asked. "There's no cannibals up here, right?"

Levi stared at you for a few moments before running his hand through his hair. "That's right, I forgot." He said softly. "(Y/N), they were eaten by these huge ass monsters called titans. The Scouting Legion wasn't something like the Military Police like we thought it was. They go outside the walls and fight those titans, but most of them don't make it back."

You forced Levi's hand out of yours. "Most people don't make it back?" You whispered. "Then...then where is Isabel and Farlen?! They made it back, right?! Where are they?!" You shouted at him, feeling your legs grow weak. Just by looking at Levi's devastated face expression, you knew what had happened, but there was no way you could accept that.

"I...I'm sorry." He said quietly. "I made the wrong decision. They're...they're gone."

You felt as if someone had taken a bat and swung it against you. You collapsed to the ground, struggling to breathe as you clutched your head. Tears were blurring your vision, but it wasn't like you were registering what was in front of you, anyways.

Isabel, Isabel. She was gone. Your hope, your only blood relative, she was gone. Was she smiling when she died? Or was she crying, screaming for you to come save her?

And Farlen. He was always a smart ass, and you couldn't believe that he had been eaten. He had always pretended to be so mature, when his mental age was the same as Isabel's.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry." Levi said, bending down to hug you, but you drew back.

"Don't touch me." You said, your voice breaking. "L-Let go of me."

"If I let go of you, I'm scared you'll leave. I don't know...I don't know if I can handle that again..." Levi extended a shaky hand to touch yours, and you let him hold it.

He pulled you close to him and it was like a switch was flicked off. "My sister, my half-sister..." You sobbed into his shoulder, clutching onto his shirt as he patted your back.

"Don't cry, don't cry." He murmured. "They are in a better place that doesn't smell as shitty as it does here, I promise."

A/N: gonna ruin this moment by wondering how awkward it must be for Erwin rn since he's still in his office
