You clenched your fists. "I want to go first."

Levi glared at you. "...Fine."

"I'll be her partner!" Alice volunteered.

"I've ne'r seen Alice this eag'r ta train b'for," Rayan commented, crossing his arms.

"That's because we're always doing vertical maneuver training, it's so draining! Combat practice is so much less tiring," Alice said enthusiastically.

You shot Levi a look. Did he do that on purpose? Levi didn't look at you, but the corner of his mouth twitched.

"'ight, do y'all want reg'lar practice or a lil tourney?" Rayan asked.

"Ooh! Tournament, please! We haven't had one in so long!" Alice commented.

"Sounds good. A'right, boys, let's take a step back for the ladies. You both ready?" Rayan asked, looking at you.

You stretched your legs, quickly sneaking a look at Levi. His arms were crossed and he had a sour look on his face, but he didn't say anything.

"Ready whenever you are," you said to Alice.

"Firs' to knock the other off their feet a'vances to next round. Ready?" The two of you got into place. "Go!"

Alice immediately lunged at you, darting side to side, forcing you to turn around multiple times in order to face her. Obviously, she was trying to catch you off guard, before bringing you down.

Too easy. You could see the triumph look on her face as she steadied her stance, prepared to knock you to the ground. In less than a heartbeat, she was flat on her back, a look of bewilderment on her face as she clearly questioned how she got to the ground.

"An' it's (Y/N)'s win!" Rayan called.

"And in one move, too," Alex said.

"Wait, wait, how did you-?" Alice stammered.

"She hooked her foot with your leading foot and pushed you over," Erd told her.

"I used your own momentum against you. You put all your momentum into your leading foot, so once I got around it, you lost your balance so I could push you over," You told her as you helped her to her feet.

"Wow! Where did you learn that?" Alice asked, her eyes wide.

You hesitated. "...in the Underground." It was a move Levi had taught you, so many years ago. With your small figure, you needed something that relied on someone else's strength instead of your nonexistent own.

The tournament continued on. Alex was next, staying low to the ground in order to avoid getting the same move that was used on his sister used on him. He grabbed your legs, lifting you up, but you swung yourself to the side, leading to both of you falling over. You scrambled to your feet, ready to defend at any moment, but Rayan already declared your victory.

Erd was a slightly harder opponent, being a smaller target than you were used to. But you outsmarted him, making him think you were going to punch him. As he jumped back, you used the same tripping motion you used on Alice to make him fall backwards.

Rayan almost got you, but it didn't matter. He picked you up, and you tucked your head in order to roll out of his grasp. Once you were closer to the ground, you went for his knees and he fell, spectacularly, to the ground.

You brushed off the dust, struggling to catch your breath, adrenaline pumping through your veins. You immediately turned to Levi, not realizing you had a large grin on your face. Are you proud of me? I fought exactly as you taught me. I'm not weak, I don't need you to protect me.

Levi was no longer frowning, but he had another peculiar expression on his face. Concern? Sadness? After so many years apart, you could no longer tell.
