"Hey, hey, Lucy?" I panted. I had to run all the way from the guild to Lucy's apartment.

"What?" she responded. Her voice sounded detached, as if her mind was wandering far, far away.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

"Tell you what?" she asked, finally making eye contact.

"Mira told me it's your birthday."

"What of it?" she turned away again.

"Luce, it's your birthday. You should be at the guild with all your friends, surrounded by mountains of presents and your favorite foods, not sulking here in your room."

"Presents?" Lucy asked, genuinely confused, "Is that what you do on your birthday?"

"Yes. Obviously. Wait a sec. Haven't you ever gotten a birthday present?" Lucy shook her head. "That's it," I responded.

"Wait! Na-" I slammed the door closed and left, ignoring Lucy's calls.
