Days continued to pass with the two dancing around each other, things slipping back to what they were. Everyone except Charlie remained unsuspecting that there was anything laying beneath the exterior that the pair put up.
Connie was in the store cupboard grabbing a few things when Jacob strolled past seeing her. Back tracking he stepped into the room closing the door causing her to jump. Looking around she pulled a face before returning her attention to the shelves before her. "Finding an excuse to do no work again?"
Jacob smirked stepping forwards to reach the top shelf that she had been struggling to get to. Her back pressed against his chest as he stood as close to her as he could get. Connie held her breath for a moment, ignoring the way she was feeling. It was all just a game, that's what she told herself.
Taking the box from his hands she turned with a smirk looking up to him. "Anyone would think you just wanted a reason to stand close to me." He laughed looking down at her with a smirk. "And what if I did?" "I'd have to tell you to think of something new to do Staff Nurse Masters."
She felt his fingers grazing across the skin of her thigh as her back leant up against the shelves directly behind her. "Really?" He arched a brow leaning closer to her, his lips moving past hers towards her ear. "You wouldn't say that you'd wanted it for a long time too?"
Connie opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. His breath blew across her skin and she kicked herself internally for how it made her feel. The quick rise and fall of her chest told him what he wanted to know. "Well in that case Mrs Beauchamp, I guess I'll get what I need and leave you to it."
His fingers still moving across her thigh before he bent down reaching around her to a shelf. Connie held her breath momentarily before he was standing facing her again. "Someone should really rearrange this cupboard, if the boss can't reach things how will we ever cope?" She glared at him as he stepped backwards before opening the door and leaving her alone.
Connie released a heavy breath turning around as she held onto the shelf beside her. She closed her eyes thinking about him, how close he had been, the way his hand glided across her, tempting her before he was gone. She grabbed everything before removing herself from the cupboard, Jacob standing a small distance away having watched her with a smirk.
For the rest of the day Connie avoided him as best she could. She needed to compose herself and prove that she could ignore him. "Sweet cheeks-" "Mrs Beauchamp." He watched as she avoided eye contact as he continued to pester her. "What do you want Staff Nurse Masters?" She slammed her hands down on the desk watching as he seemed entertained by her short tempered reactions.
"Nothing... Absolutely nothing." She thought he had walked away before he stepped beside her. Her breath catching in her throat as she felt his hand run down her side. Her head snapped up to look at him, seeing something in his eyes that she hadn't seen before. It didn't matter how hard she tried to convince herself that she would just be some notch on his bedpost, it didn't stop the feelings she felt.
Connie finally pulled her gaze from him to look at her paperwork. "You know you can't ignore me forever right?" "Who said I was ignoring you?" Jacob laughed moving a hand over her thigh once again, just as he had earlier. "I think we both know you are." She bit the inside of her lip as he removed his hands from her before walking away.
She felt the cold instantly as he wandered across the department. Maybe she could let herself go there once, and then all this would be over with. Forgotten about. He would leave her alone and let her get on with her work, and she could put all the thoughts in her head to rest.
At the end of the shift she had convinced herself that they would be okay doing this. That she could give in to the advances for one night, just to get it over with. Wandering towards the bar that evening she headed inside to see Jacob at the bar with Cal, two woman standing with them.
Connie pushed her tongue into her cheek as Charlie approached her, walking inside with her. "Didn't expect to see you here tonight." "Well, I needed a change of scenery." He nodded with a smile buying her a drink as her eyes moved across to Jacob once again. His hand dancing over the other woman's waist while he spoke to her, just as he had stood with her earlier.
Rolling her eyes she took a seat with Charlie before seeing several of the staff stumbling around drunk. "Is this really what I have to go on a 'relaxing' trip with." "I'm afraid so, but you've got me to keep you company." Connie smiled warmly looking to him but couldn't help her eyes moving over to Jacob once more which wasn't unnoticed by Charlie.
Jacob hadn't noticed Connie as the woman he was with leant in and kissed him. She released a small sigh focusing her attention on the table before her as Charlie spoke. Hardly any of his words were heard but she watched him disappear around the bar. "Pretty woman drinking on her own, not something I like to see."
Connie's eyes lifted to the man that had taken Charlie's place, sitting opposite her. Connie flicked her eyes over to Jacob once again where he still stood with Cal and his 'friend'. She let a small grin creep onto her face as she turned back. "Then why don't you change that?" She arched a brow as he nodded, moving closer to her as they shared a few words.
There were a long line of pointless relationships in Connie's past and this was yet another that was being added to it. His lips pressed down against hers as her back hit the cold wall of the pub. His hands roaming her body as she wrapped an arm around his neck letting him deepen the kiss.
The noise from the bar not drawing her attention away from what she was doing. "Is that Mrs Beauchamp?" Cal nodded towards a woman standing a short distance from them. Jacob had his arm around the shoulders of another woman as he looked over, doubting Cal's suspicions.
Connie leant her head back as his lips pressed against her neck, moving over her collarbone. She turned her head seeing Jacob look to her, their eyes meeting for a moment before she turned back. Her lips captured by his quickly as she kept her arms around his neck.
Jacob swallowed the anger before walking the opposite direction, ignoring the voice that was shouting at him to go back and stop her. Neither were with anyone they cared for, but it was who they both were it was just how they did things.
