Scarlett
I'm sitting in last period biology waiting for the teacher and the rest of my classmates to show up. I'm sitting at my usual lab bench in the back corner. I'm usually alone for assignments in this class because of the odd number and I'm okay with it because it means no one ever has to come to my house to work on a project. Or I don't have to explain why I can't have people over. The bell rings and I look up at the last few students trickling in, one of them being Alexander.
Just as I lower my head to avoid his gaze, he catches my eye and smiles. I look down immediately and tap my pen against my desk. A few seconds later a figure drops into the seat beside me and I pray that it isn't him. I keep my head down and don't look up so I can make it seem like this isn't real, like this isn't happening. They reach over and tap my hand with their finger, basically forcing me to look up. I'm met with a pair of chocolate brown eyes smiling at me. "What are you doing?" I ask lowering my eyes.
"I'm sitting with you, what does it look like I'm doing?" He asks and I can actually hear the smirk in his voice. I roll my eyes and look out the window.
The teacher walks in and I sit up straighter. He sets his bag down and then he looks at all of us. "Alright so we're starting a new unit. Human biology." He says and the entire class groans including Alexander. "Oh get over it and quit your groaning. You will all be paired with the person beside you today and Lexi..." He says looking at the girl sitting by herself today. "You can join Julia and Brandon's group so you're not alone." He says and she nods. I can feel Alexander's eyes on me but I try to ignore it. The teacher starts to drone on about what the unit is about and if you look around the class you can see that every single person is so uncomfortable with this.
"Your first task is to find out twenty things about the other person. It's kind of like the game I'm sure you young people are familiar with, twenty questions." He says and everyone groans. "What did I say about the groaning? Anyways, these questions are due at the beginning of next week. Today is the only day for in-class time, so use your time wisely." He says and I inwardly groan. He sits down at his desk and pulls out a book to read. As you can see our teacher is a great one.
Alexander turns to me grinning and I frown at him. "What?" I ask.
"Nothing. I'm just looking forward to getting to know you better." He says.
"You're not gonna like what you learn." I mumble under my breath and he leans closer.
"What did you say?" He asks and I shake my head.
"Never mind." I say shaking my head as one of the kids in our class comes by with the sheet with the questions we're supposed to fill out. My eyes widen as they read over the last few and I'm really questioning if this teacher is actually qualified for the job.
