One Week

Christina sat down on the living room couch as she began to watch television. She was too distracted, her mind kept going back to Kendall. Ever since she brought him back home from the hospital he had been acting weird.

They didn't have their movie night that day, Kendall had to cancel due to some family party. She was almost positive he made it up. He didn't answer her calls, and responded to her texts late at night. He wasn't the same. She kept thinking if he hit his head too hard while falling down the stairs..

On the other side, Damon had been extremely happy the past few days. Too happy in fact, he had agreed to add more guests to the wedding.. Christina immediately invited Kendall's family members. It was tough enough to have Kendall on the guest list. She didn't think he would allow it, but he did.. and now he allowed his family.

Maybe it's just the wedding day that was getting closer, that could have changed his mind.. But somewhere, deep inside.. She felt it connected.. Damon's happiness connected to Kendall's strange behavior. Damon instantly walked in the room with a bowl of chips, and sat down next to her.

"Damon..." She caught his attention. Somehow it felt stupid to ask, but it was too late now.

"Yeah sweetheart?" He chewed on a chip.

"You haven't seen Kendall have you?" She asked. Damon set the bowl aside and sat up straight.

Looking right into her eyes he asked, "Why? Did he say something?"

"No.. Nothing. He's just been acting weird lately. But you saw him?" Christina hinted at his response.

"Not at all. Sorry. Wish I could help." He reached back to grab the bowl and resumed his previous position.

A tear slipped down Kendall's cheek as he realized the days left to spend with her were decreasing by the minute. Her phone calls and her texts flooded his cellphone. He wished to answer, every single one of them. There was a knock at his bedroom door, he realized he had been staring at the calendar placed on his wall.

"I'll be out there in a minute." He answered. His brother walked in the door, soon followed by his best friend.

"How are you, buddy?" Kevin sat down next to Kendall on the bed while Dustin sat on a computer desk chair.

"Horrible." He ran his fingers through his hair. "I miss her like hell."

"He's such a prick. I wish I could just beat his ass." Kevin muttered. Dustin looked at Kendall surprised. Kendall shook his head. Kendall only shared the Damon incident with Dustin.

"Thing is, I don't get this stupid promise. You need a proper goodbye if you won't see her anymore." Dustin scratched his head as he tried to make Kendall ignore the stupid promise and find her. "I bet she's missing you like hell."

Kendall stared at the floor. What Dustin said, actually made sense. He had to find her. See her again. He had one week left. Without a word, he got up, grabbed his keys and stormed out. Kevin and Dustin jumped up and high-fived each other. Mission was complete.

Damon was half asleep. Christina tried to move his body away, his weight was nearly crushing her. Successfully, he fell asleep on the arm rest of the couch. As she walked to the dvd player, she heard a small knock on her door.

The clock on the wall was nearly midnight. She tip-toed across the room as she slowly opened the door. Kendall smiled as she jumped in his arms.

"What are you doing here?" She whispered. Instantly looking back at the couch, glad Damon was asleep.

"I needed to see you, and I am so sorry I ignored you." He hugged her once more, he looked inside the house and saw Damon. His heart stopped, then realized he was asleep.

"Well I need a good explanation why." She responded, she followed Kendall's gaze to the man on the couch. She looked down at the floor. Not daring to see the look in his face.

"Friday movie night?" He mumbled. Christina nodded, she felt Kendall's finger tilt her chin up. "It's okay. I'm not upset." He smiled.

"What are you doing here?" A voice demanded. They both turned to see Damon sit up and stand from the couch. As he made his way to the two best friends.

"Damon." She ordered him to calm down, as she pressed her hands against his chest. He had stood too close to Kendall.

"Chris, it's okay." Kendall assured her, looking back at Damon. One look and he knew Damon wanted to hurt him there. The only thing holding him back.. both of them.. was her.

"No, Kendall it's not." She snapped. "What has gotten into you both? You used to get along! Now you can't stand each other.."

"Babe," Damon begged.

Kendall interrupted him. "Look, I know we haven't been acting very mature. But trust me, it's hard for us both to compromise."

"Because.." She inquired. Kendall glanced at Damon, who suddenly grinned, waiting for him to answer. The obvious way was to come clean and tell her how he felt. But that would break her heart, especially when she was getting married. "it's complicated."

Damon let out a laugh. "Oh please!"

"I need to talk to you." Kendall added. "About something we agreed on a while ago."

"Babe, can you leave us alone for a few minutes?" Damon leaned in to kiss Christina, but she pulled away before he could.

"What are you both keeping away from me?" She turned to Kendall. "I didn't think you would have secrets from me. We never had."

Kendall could see her eyes begin to water. "I'll be able to explain one day. I promise." He looked at Damon. He chuckled.

Christina angerly stormed out of the house as she slammed the door shut. Damon bolted to the door as Kendall stopped him.

"She won't go anywhere. Not far." He assured him.

Damon peeked out of the window, and saw her sit on the sidewalk. "I'm not surprised."

"I am surprised you don't know her that well." Kendall smirked.

"You wanted me here. What do you want? Backing out of the promise? I told you there would be consequences." Damon took a step closer to Kendall.

"No, not at all. I need to be close to her this week. If you do want me to keep the promise." Kendall looked down.

"You do know there will be consequences if you continue to be in her- our lives." He corrected himself.

"I know." He sighed.

"That's why I'm taking her to London where we both will live." Damon announced. News hit Kendall like a bullet through his heart. "I thought about it and yes, you can spend time with her. Just not too much time."

Kendall's eyes filled with tears. "London.." he repeated. He was going to have his best friend across the world. He really had little to no time to spend with her. One week wasn't enough. "When did you tell her?"

"Oh, I haven't told her yet. And please don't tell. It's a surprise. We should be leaving the night of our wedding. She thinks its just for the honeymoon but when we arrive home. I'll tell her."

"Damon, don't do this. Please." He begged.

"We agreed. The wedding would be a little celebration party of the ending of your relationship." Damon opened the door and held it open. Waiting for Kendall to step out. "You know the consequences.. I have contacts.. And they will kill you." He reminded him.

Kendall nodded as he walked out of the house, Christina quickly spotted him. He held his arm half way up, waving goodbye. She tried to catch up to talk to him. While hiding the tears Kendall opened the door. "I'll call you tomorrow morning." As he got in, going home heartbroken.
