Elena POV
I yarned hugely as I followed Ren downstairs the next morning, my legs ached but I hardly noticed them all my thoughts were on the black wolf that had saved me.
All night I had dreamed of a young man I had never seen before. He acted like a wolf, intense and proud yet nervous and subtle. His eyes were mismatched and his scruffy hair as black as night. He reminded me of the black wolf. It was like he was the black wolf only as a human; like he had been cursed.
This seem to explain a lot about the way the wolf last night had acted and I hoped that my dream was more of a vision and was true.
Thankfully I took the bole of porridge from my father and sat down at the small table and cupped my hands around the warm bole trying to get warm.
Grumbling my father put the last of the logs on the dwindling fire.
"Its going to be a harsh winter this year," sighed my father picking up Ren in his arms and hugging her tightly against him.
"We will make do though," I said trying to stay positive, "we always do, just because mum isn't..."
I trailed off at the sight of my little sister's face drop like a stone and my father's eyes harden in warning. Hurriedly I looked down, picked up my spoon and began to eat my breakfast before it got cold.
When I had finished I rose to my feet and picked up the wood basket and headed towards the door.
"Where are you going?" my father called briskly after me.
"Going to get firewood," I said, turning around and showing him the wicker basket.
"Fine, just be carful," my father growled.
I rolled my eyes and was about to leave when my father said, "I mean it Elena there's been roomers of a black wolf hanging around the village lately."
I spun around, eyes wide and heart pounding, "what, since when?"
My father raised his eyebrows at me," I heard that two men travellers were attacked by a huge black wolf one killed the other just escaped."
It was the two that had attacked me, I realized sickeningly.
"They probably disserved what they got anyway," I said then I left before my father could scold me for my thoughtless words.
I waved as Mrs. Kite the baker as I past her small shop and she waved me over.
"Good morning Elena," she beamed, "God you are looking so much like your mother each day bless her soul. How is your father doing?"
