The Maiden and the Wolf---- *A Fantasy Romance Story*
*Chapter 13*
Elena POV
The black wolf with the mismatched eye prowled closer towards me, his claws a sharp as black flint, teeth like blades he sprang at me. I turned to run but a dark figure blocked my way. I spun around and saw the wolf flying towards me, I ducked and the wolf slammed into the figure. The wolf disappeared in a cloud of black smoke as he struck the figures body, become one again. Dakota raised his head, eyes flashing with anger and betrayal then he stepped towards me to kill me with no remorse in his heart.
"No!" I screamed sitting bolt upright, shaking as I still saw him standing over me, "I'm sorry. Please. NO!"
Strong arms grabbed me and shook me hard.
"Elena? Elena!" I stared at Vell's face flushed with worry.
"He's here," I gasped, tears rolling down my cheeks, "I betrayed him. Oh Vell I broke his heart!"
Vell pulled me onto his lap, wrapping his arms tightly around me, "it's alright Elena," he said, stroking my hair, "he's not here, it's only us. You're safe. Elena look at me!"
I looked up into his eyes, feeling his strong hands ever side of my face.
"I won't let anyone hurt you. I promise. I love you Elena."
I shook me head hard, pulling away from his hands and staggering up.
"No," my voice shook, "you can't. I belong with him. I love him. I have to find him."
I grabbed my pack, sword and bow and quiver and throw them over my shoulders then turned and started walking. It felt like a dream, like I wasn't really doing it, like I couldn't control my actions.
"Elena!" called Vell, standing watching me, confusion and horror on his face, "where are you going?"
Away from you...I thought painfully to myself; I heard his footsteps running up behind then he grabbed my arm and pulled me around.
"Vell, let me go," I said, angry with myself and him.
"No Elena," he snapped, "your just going to walk away-"
I pulled my arm free and carried on walking away, ignoring his shouts.
"Elena! Don't leave. Don't walk away! Please! Elena! I love you!"
I spun around and shouted back, "if you love me then don't follow me!"
Dakota POV
I sat waiting for Locke to wake up, the sun rising steadily over the forest canopy.
The bright sun light filtered through the dense leafy canopy and struck the dew covered ground sending shimmering diamond beads of light dancing up the tree trunks all around and up my black pelt like stars.
The sunlight made the autumn coloured leaves glow simultaneously, yellow, orange, gold and even crimson blended together and long shadows were cast on the forest floor.
Finally Locke steered and sat up quickly at the sight of the huge black wolf.
"We really have to do something about your changes," Locke sighed.
I growled, getting up and walking to the edge of camp, then turned back to look at Locke. I growled, twisting my ears and jerking my head.
"I don't speak wolf, Dakota," said Locke, laughing slightly.
