*Chapter 25*

Dakota POV

I awake late that morning, my head filled with fuzzy images and emotions; my mouth was dry as if I had stayed up all night talking.

Elena was standing away from me, her back to me, holding her bow at arms length. She released the arrow and it struck the tree she was using as a target with a thud. The arrow hadn't stopped quivering before Elena wrenched it out again and stalked back to aim again.

I stood up stiffly, my muscles resisted and cramped with wariness from my fight yesterday but I pushed past the barrier of pain and discomfort.

Elena was upset and frustrated, that was all that matter to me in the world right at that very moment.

Drawing up behind her I saw she had chipped a piece of bark away from the trunk to make a target but she hadn't hit it her arrows struck the tree but inches away from the point, if she had been shooting a man she would have missed him completely.

I watched silently as she aimed again, taking in her position and breathing, finding what she was going wrong.

The string of the bow shook with the ferocity in which she tensed it and released it through her anger.

The arrow only just hit the tree this time, catching on the very edge of the ruff bark.

She growled with frustration under her breath as she marched out again to receive the arrow as she turned around she saw me standing there and she froze for a moment before muster a smile.

"Good morning," she said gruffly, "how are your bruises?"

"I fine," I said half-heartedly, not caring about myself, "are you alright?"

Elena sent earth flying as she twisted on her heals to face the tree again, wildly aiming the arrow.

"What does it look like?" she hissed, her muscles tightening with the string, her elbow angle all right.

"Well it's clear you're upset about something," I said slowly, "and so frustrated that you're talking it out on that tree."

Elena snorted, "A blind man could have sensed that!"

"Elena tell me," I said worry clear in my voice.

"Eve and Vinson left during the night," she growled her voice thick with tears, "Eve left a note."

"Can I read it?" I asked gently.

"No," Elena said coolly, "I throw it in the fire."

"Oh," I tried not to laugh, "What did it say then?"

"It said 'Goodbye Elena we promised to help you find Dakota and now you're safely with him we have to leave. Farwell. Eve and Vinson.' I mean how could they just leave, especially now when we might be crossing the mountains!"

I stared as Elena loosed the arrow and it stuck fast in the ground short from the tree, I didn't really know what to say.

"Elena," I started as she prowled back to me arrow in hand, "don't you think your overreacting just a tiny bit," she froze arrow in place, "I mean they do have a right to leave and if they have fulfilled their word to you then-"

Elena snarled furiously like a wildcat, swinging around arrow slipping from her fingers and shooting at me.

It was only because of my lightning fast movements that I was able to avoid the deadly shaft, dropping to the ground the arrow flow over my head and I heard a sharp yelp from behind me.
