Louis entered the guest room. He locked the door shut.
"Her voice is shrill and irritating. Why would you want to bear with that for the rest of your life?" Larry mewled.
"Larry, don't be mean." Louis chided, "Besides, her voice is not as bad as going to war."
"I beg to differ." Larry put bluntly. Louis rolled his eyes.
"I am marrying the princess. I don't want a war and Ariak can't afford to give up our mines." Louis stated firmly.
"Have it your way." Larry sighed. "I'm tired."
"Of course, you are. You've been bugging me the whole way here." Louis commented.
"Can I take the bed?" Larry asked.
"Does my answer really matter? If I say yes, you'll sleep on the bed. If I say no, you'll sleep on the bed."
"You know me so well." Larry smirked, finding a comfortable position on the mattress.
"Just scooch over a little." Louis instructed. Louis changed out of his attire and went to bed.
"Louis?" Louis heard a feminine voice say. His eyes opened as he woke from his nap and he jolted upright. His forehead knocked against someone.
"Ah!" She screamed as she fell backwards. Louis grabbed her wrists to stop her from falling.
"Your highness, I am so sorry!" Louis apologised to Princess Danielle. Her eyes darted to his fingers wrapped around her arm. She blushed furiously. Louis released her when she regained her balance.
"Sorry to wake you, Prince Louis, but dinner is about to start." Danielle informed.
"Thank you, your highness." Louis murmured, rubbing his face.
"Oh, you can call me Danielle. I don't mind." Danielle said. "May I call you Louis?"
"Uh yeah, I guess." Louis mumbled, sleepily.
"Did you have a good sleep?" Danielle asked, trying to make small talk.
"Yeah." Louis answered. "How did you get in here? I thought I locked the door."
"I have the key. Oh, did you not want me in here?" Danielle asked cluelessly.
"Locking the door would have been a clear indication of that, wouldn't it?" Larry sarcastically remarked but all Danielle heard from her was a few simple meows.
"Nevermind." Louis muttered.
"Oh, are you mad?" Danielle gasped. "I didn't mean to make you angry."
"I'm not mad." Louis assured.
"Promise?"
"Promise." Louis forced a smile. He waited for Danielle to leave so he could get out of bed to change but she just sat there like a log. She probably did not realise that he was naked under the sheets.
"Could you leave? I need to get dressed." Louis requested.
"Oh, okay!" Danielle chirped. She left promptly. She winked at Louis before closing the door. When she was outside, Louis could hear her giggling.
Louis got out of bed and pulled on his pants. He slipped his arms into the sleeves of his shirt. As he did each buttoned, he looked at his messed up hair in the mirror. Louis combed his locks neatly.
"Why are you spending so much effort into dressing up?" Larry asked.
"Presentation, Larry." Louis stated. "If I'm trying to get married to this princess, I need to impress her."
"I think you've impressed her already."
"I need to impress the rest of the royal family of Vaelle too."
"I'd rather you give up so that we can go home."
Larry was getting on Louis' nerve. Louis inhaled sharply as if he was about to yell at her. However, he just exhaled slowly while shaking his head, refusing the urge to shout.
"I'm going for dinner." Louis announced to Larry. He opened the door and Danielle was there. Danielle grinned at Louis widely.
"Danielle, do you have any food in the castle for Larry?" Louis asked.
"Oh yes! I'll drop by your room after dinner to give it to you. Is that fine?" Danielle asked.
"That will be excellent. Thank you."
"You're welcome, Lou."
"Lou?"
"Oh, are you uncomfortable with that nickname?"
"No, it's just that it has been awhile since anyone has called me by that name."
"Oh, um... Do you want to head down for dinner?" Danielle asked. Louis nodded.
Danielle took Louis' arm and draped it over her bare shoulders. Her off-shoulder dress reached all the way down to her ankles but not so long that she was sweeping the floor with her skirt when she walked.
"Do you like my dress?" Danielle asked, doing a spin in the hallway so Louis could have a better look at her outfit.
"It's lovely." Louis commented.
"Oh, thank you!"
"Why do you always say 'Oh' before speaking?"
"Oh, I don't know."
"There you go again!" Louis teased playfully. Danielle blushed and hid her face in her hands.
The two of them walked into the dining room. Louis pulled out Danielle's chair for her like the gentleman he is. He took his seat after she had taken hers. King Stephen and Queen Diane were already seated in the dining room long before Louis and Danielle had entered. The four of them began to eat.
"Louis," King Stephen began to speak. "I have made my decision. If you wish to marry my daughter, you have my blessings."
Danielle squealed in excitement but stopped herself by covering her mouth with both hands. She realised the others at the table were staring at her. Red rushed to her cheeks.
Louis smiled at her. This made her blush even more.
"This is wonderful." Louis whispered to Danielle.
"Oh, it is!" Danielle agreed. "I can't wait for the wedding. We'd have to have in February because we're celebrating my birthday at the end of this month."
"Prince Louis, may I request that you plan the celebration for Danielle's birthday party? I will settle the wedding ceremony." King Stephen said.
Louis nodded but what he really wanted to say was, "You may request that but I'd rather not accept it."
"Oh! I want a big chocolate cake. Daddy, can I invite all my friends over? I'll need to get a new dress for my birthday and another one for the wedding." Danielle jabbered on.
"Thank you, Louis." King Stephen said. "Will your father be coming for the wedding ceremony?"
"Yes, of course. Who would want to miss their child's wedding?" Louis asked rhetorically.
So it was settled. The prince of Ariak was to be married to the princess of Vaelle next month. The news of the engaged royal couple spread like wildfire through both kingdoms and beyond.
