One thing I loved about the diner was how absolutely gorgeous it was inside. I suppose I've never exactly had a proper eye for beauty but I couldn't help but feel this bubbling feeling in my stomach every time I set foot inside, especially at night.
Colorful flashing signs decorated the outside of the windows; while a warm glow lit the inside. Quite red booths and chairs crowded the aisle space. Soft music played from a jukebox in the corner, giving a lively feeling to any empty space. The waitress staff each carried their own slight twang of a southern accent as the greeted us with a smile.
It was just... homey.
"It's so late, though?" Taylor spoke confused as we took a seat.
I raised an eyebrow, "Haven't you ever had breakfast for dinner?'
"Don't you eat dinner at a normal time?"
"Touche," I nodded towards him before wrapping my hands around the warm coffee mug, "But, this will probably be the best experience of your life."
"Yah? Is it gonna be life changing?"
"More than you ever thought it could."
The waitress took a step towards, extending a smile at Taylor and back to me before placing down the menu cards, "What are you two kids doing out so late?"
Taylor quirked his head at me as if to say, "I told you so."
I shrugged, "It's a nice night, I suppose."
"Yah and she just got her butt kicked in bowling!"
Our waitress chuckled and swatted at Taylor, "That's no way to talk to a pretty girl!" She shook her head before gesturing to the menu, "I'll be back in a moment."
I laughed to myself before scanning over the plastic card, "I already know what I'm going to get but this is more for show... so you don't feel bad about yourself." I teased Taylor.
He shook his head, "You know when I first met you, I thought you were a lot nicer than you are."
"I'm a gem."
"That's one way to put it."
As our waitress came back I ordered a waffle topped with strawberries and whipped cream and a side of fries. Taylor with a judgement full expression, ordered a stack of pancakes,
"Fries?"
"Yep."
"But..."
"Yep."
"Why?"
I paused, letting a small smile fall on my face and took a sip of my coffee, "Why not?"
