When she got to her dorm she found it was empty. She put her stuff away and sat down in a chair and waited missing her mother and Vulcan. After a while she became bored and decided to write her mother a letter.
Dear mom,
We just arrived in San Francisco. I have to have a temporary dorm and I haven't met my room mate but I will be joining the academy definetly. S'lack seems to be ok but you can't tell.
She heard someone in the hallway with her Vulcan hearing. She put her letter away and decided to write later. Her roommate opened the door, she was tall and had long curly dark dark brown almost black hair. She saw T'ming and nearly screamed. When she was no longer shocked she said "Hello."
T'ming looked at her,"I'm T'ming I'm joining the academy to be a doctor." She had a strange feeling that this girl wasn't fully human.
"Hello I'm Deanna Troi, I ws not informed that I was to have a roommate."
"Sorry about that My father, Ambassador Spock, and my husband, S'lack and I have just joined the Academy. The head of the Academy wouldn't let us have a dorm together without proof." Troi looked sympathetic. She was empathetic being half betazoid. she could feel the depressed feeling in T'ming.
"I'm sorry you'll never be able to date anyone being marrried to someone at 15. The stress must be tremendous. What do you plan to major in?"
T'ming gave a thoughtful look and said, "My plan is to become a Doctor. Since my mother was a nurse I decided to join the medical profession and since my father was in Star Fleet I decided to become a Star Fleet doctor."
"That's very honorable since from what I understand following the teachings of you parents is a very important Vulcan teaching." Suddenly a knock at the door startled them. Troi told whoever was outside the door to come in. It was S'lack. Troi looked over to T'ming. T'ming nodded in acknowledgement. As all this was happening S'lack walked over to T'ming and extended his fingers to signify that they were joined. As it had turned out he had recieved both their schedules, he also came to see how she was doing being so far from everything she knew.
Troi extended her hand,"Hello S'lack, T'ming has told me much about you. And out of morbid curiosity what are you majoring in?"
S'lack raised his eyebrows and said,"I have not evaluated my options yet. But I am thinking of majoring in science, I have not decided which science. But I'm certainly not going to major in medicine like T'ming. I have decided on science since we Vulcans have such anylytical, logical minds."
"Okay," Troi was very nervous S'lack was much different than T'ming. T'ming had obviously left gaps that would need to be filled when S'lack left.
S'lack looked over to T'ming,"I presume that your father, the ambassador will have our linving arrangements straighted out by next week?"
"You can presume such." They had both seemed to have forgotten that there was someone else in the room. As S'lack was leaving Troi told him that it was nice to meet him and bade him a good night. Troi turned to T'ming.
"You're different than him, his emotions are very different."
"What emotions?"
"Exactly, they are very faint and you act differently. You use fewer complex words, you also have a greater emotional presence. If you wouldn't mind please explain."
T'ming took a deep breath and prepared to explain. "I'm only a quarter vulcan since my mother is human and my father is only half vulcan. I do retain the dominant Vulcan traits I have less logic and mental disiplin. Since having the logical mind is the Vulcan brian with training it was always much more difficult for my father and I to master my mind. We tried to accomplish it together seeing as we could sympathize with each other. I do have emotional break downs now and then, since the stress of keeping collected and "Vulcan" is a difficult job for me. In a sense on Vulcan I could be considered to have a mental disability for a Vulcan. I am now terrified of my breakdowns since I shall be living with a pure Vulcan, I already know he is displeased with me. Unlike with humans where he would look at other women he shows in only a vulcan way that he doesn't like me, he doesn't talk to me much, in Vulcan society that usually is a signal of dipleasement."
T'ming began to weep uncontrolably, Troi rushed over to her and put her hands on T'ming's upper arms and told her it would be OK, not believing what she was saying herself. She could feel how scared and ashamed the young, married, seventeen year-old was. Suddenly and I dea came to her.
"T'ming, Could I talk to S'lack? You would be in the room with us."
Troi watched as a tearstreaked face and tearful eyes rose to meet hers. As tears ran and glistened down T'mings cheeks she noded.
